Various pictures from the January 18th 2003 Washington DC Anti-war rally sponsored by ANSWER.

January 18th 2003 was an active day in the anti-war movement both in the United States and abroad. Peace rallies occured in Washington DC, San Francisco, Tokyo and Rawalpindi, Pakistan to name a few. Sponsored by ANSWER, the Washington DC rally and subsequent march were attended by 250+ Pittsburgher's, many of whom took one of the six busses organized by the Thomas Merton Center. Crowd estimates are hovering around 200,000 people in attendance marking an attendence far greater than that of the October Washington DC ANSWER rally. While the police were present, few were wearing any kind of specialized tactical gear. Overall, the rally and march went without major incident though there was a report of at least two Pittsburgher's being struck by a police officer in an effort to help a fellow activist.

Want a pretzel? $3 each, two for $5. There were quite a few vendors selling overpriced wares at the event.

The police were seen, but were overall well behaved. At times they seemed very concerned about people who didn't support the war stepping on the sidewalk.
