Pittsburgh Organizing Group Shuts Down Recruitment Center
Pittsburgh Organizing Group
2007-01-15 2:20 AM![]()
Pittsburgh Organizing Group successfully disrupted the military recruitment machine in Pittsburgh yet again. The recruitment center shut down for the entire day. Shortly before 11am, having already accomplished their major goal, 40 protesters gathered outside for a two hour picket designed to keep anti-war resistance front and center in the public eye. Signs such as, “There’s Dead, and Then There’s ARMY DEAD,” “Honk for Peace,” “Recruiters Are Child Predators,” “Those Who Call the Shots Aren’t Among the Shot,” “Let the Rich Fight Their Own Wars,” and “Resist, Don’t Enlist” resulted in a plethora of horn honks and supportive gestures from passing drivers. After only a few weeks of planning, the Infoshoppe now hosts an ever-growing collection in a permanent, centrally located and nearly autonomous location.

Pittsburgh IWW Strikes again at Starbucks’ Anti-Union Practices
Union Observer
2006-12-18 4:48 PM![]()
We workers can continue to grovel for these low-wage jobs, or we can just wring our hands in despair, or we can stand up and demand better treatment from these moneymaking corporations. We all know what Starbucks wants its so-called “partners” to do. It’s no mystery why Starbucks is firing workers for organizing, trying to get them to think that a union is unnecessary, and keeping a close eye on those of us who want an independent voice at work.”

Pinochet is dead. It is time to kill the system that spawned him!
Freddy W.
2006-12-16 3:24 PM![]()
The fact that the death of Pinochet on Sunday sparked off celebrations in Chile and around the world should surprise no one. He was a hated figure, a living symbol of the real face of the bourgeoisie.
In "normal" times the capitalists prefer to govern through "democratic" parliamentary means, so long as their fundamental interests are guaranteed. But the capitalist system cannot always guarantee that its interests can be defended through parliamentary means. History is full of examples where the bourgeoisie has preferred to do away with the niceties of "democracy"... Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Suharto... the list is endless. (image/png)

On November 29th protesters rallied outside of Representative James McGovern’s in protest of The Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA), which was signed into law on November 27th. Under the new law, animal rights activists face massive fines and jail time for being involved in nonviolent civil disobedience. In light of increased marginalization and repression of eco-activists by federal officials, all individuals concerned with loss of our civil liberties to need to ban together in protest of the AETA and act in solidarity with victims of the Greenscare. This is a shorter “reader-friendly” essay review of German author Michael Schiffmann's explosive new book on Mumia Abu-Jamal featured at http://www.dissidentvoice.org/Nov06/Bennett24.htm based on my exclusive reading of the English language version (not yet published in the US) and an extensive interview, which is the only public English language resource that documents the many new facts and original ballistics analysis presented in the German book. This version features several accompanying graphics.
