The Evolution of Morality
Scientists who study human evolution have discovered the evolutionary origins of morality. Despite U.S. Threats, Voters Return Sandinistas To Power
The Sandinista revolution, upon coming to power in 1979, confiscated the land that had been held by the Somoza family and some of his closet cronies and redistributed it to the poor that worked it partly through establishing collectively run state farms. The Sandinistas also made literacy and healthcare a priority. Easily treated diseases that Somoza let kill and maim, such as polio, were vaccinated against and eliminated. Teaching everyone to read and write became a priority in the country where Somoza once declared he wanted “… uneducated people, little more than beasts of burden.” (image/jpeg + 2 comments)

It is our patriotic duty to defend the area of freedom that people’s power had carved out in the struggle against the Marcos dictatorship. The best way to defend freedom is to exercise it. Responsible citizens cannot watch in silence as the minions of Mrs. Arroyo make a mockery of our democratic rights. (image/jpeg)

On Nov. 4, 2006, a ceremony was held to mark the reopening of the R.C. Basilica in Baltimore. It was designed by Benjamin Henry Latrobe, who it was noted emigrated from England, “in 1795.” Latrobe’s Pennsylvania German connections were omitted, however. His mother was born in PA, and his maternal grandfather, John Henry Antes, a German emigrant, was a builder in his own right. Three of Latrobe’s uncles were Revolutionary War patriots. (image/jpeg)

CPP congratulates DPR-Korea for nuke breakthrough
The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today congratulated the people and government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea for successfully and safely carrying out its first-ever nuclear test and hailed the successful test as a “militant assertion of national sovereignty and the right of an independent country to develop its own powerful self-reliant defense capability amidst constant efforts by the US to impose its imperialist hegemony over the world, maintain its monopoly of nuclear weapons along with a few other powerful countries, and subvert the sovereign will of the DPRK.” (image/jpeg + 9 comments)

Houses demolished in Korean resistance to US base expansion
For over four years, the Korean villages of Daechuri and Doduri have defiantly resisted the seizure of their homes and fields for the expansion of an United States Army base. On September 13 at dawn, 22,000 riot police invaded and occupied the villages. Police demolition equipment managed to wipe out 68 empty houses. But the vastly outnumbered villagers and supporters put up a fierce resistance, and managed to stop the cops from destroying many of the houses that the Ministry of Defense had threatened to destroy.
