The News We Kept to Ourselves
EASON JORDAN

Each time I visited, I became more distressed by what I saw and heard — awful things that could not be reported because doing so would have jeopardized the lives of Iraqis, particularly those on our Baghdad staff. (text/plain)

For years we were subjected to reporting on the situation in Iraq that clearly soft-pedaled and often ignored the real atrocities and threats of the Hussein regime. And always this reporting was offered up as far more reliable than our own government sources. AND this reporting is used to protest intervention in, and the use of force to stop, one of the worst human rights crisis of this short century. But now the truth can be told ... and still there are people out there that find some way to impose the sins of Hussein, the rape of Iraq, and the hatred of the Arab despots on the United States. That is insanity !!! (text/plain + 12 comments)

War Tax Resistance Made Simple
Matt W.
2003-04-11 5:52 AM
the basic truth is about half of your income tax is going to the military. For all the millions of people who've taken to the streets in the past four months to prevent or oppose this war, this is like a kidney punch from behind: You may spend your days, nights and/or weekends working to preserve peace, but everyone who pays taxes is financially helping to support the war.

Their Tongues Were Cut Out for Slandering Hussein
March 28th, 2003 3:30 PM
Often, the executions have been carried out by the Fedayeen Saddam, a paramilitary group headed by Mr. Hussein's oldest son, 38-year-old Uday. These men, masked and clad in black, make the women kneel in busy city squares, along crowded sidewalks, or in neighborhood plots, then behead them with swords. The families of some victims have claimed they were innocent of any crime save that of criticizing Mr. Hussein. —John F. Burns, "How Many People Has Hussein Killed?"
