As the Bush administration continues its drive to war, the people of Pittsburgh continue their efforts for peace. A successful
weekend of action on January 24th-26th saw thousands gather in Pittsburgh to voice their opposition to the war. Post-convergence
discussion is ongoing in our newswire. But now, as the government ramps up its
propaganda machine and war seems even more inevitable, many activists ask "
what's next."
Many plan to attend what promises to be one of the
largest demonstrations in NYC on
February 15th, but local actions are also being considered. In March, the Pittsburgh Organizing Group hopes to hold an
anti-war rally in Pittsburgh. A group of local college students plan a
teach-in on the day after bombing begins, with others mentioning a
student strike. Students at nearby
Westminster College have planned a
demonstration for February 22nd. And according to the minutes of the Pittsburgh Anti-War Committee, some local residents, energized by the
growing list of cities that have passed anti-war resolutions, hope to get one passed here as well.
