Demonstration and March: Global Justice Now

Assemble at David Lawrence Hall (Univ. of Pittsburgh) 3942 Forbes Ave.

The FTAA, WTO, IMF, and World Bank are all part of an interconnected system of corporate domination currently ravaging the earth and its inhabitants. We can not hope to stop the injustices and exploitation
currently taking place by attacking, abolishing, or remaking one particular institution. Our goal must be to non-violently oppose all instruments of oppression wherever and however possible. At the same time we struggle against the current order we must promote creation of a workable system based on justice, equality, freedom, sustainability, and mutual aid. At the end of October FTAA ministerial meetings are taking place in Quito, Ecuador. The purpose of these meetings is to continue working towards adoption of a hemisphere wide Free Trade Area Of The America's. Colin Powell put it best when he said ""Our objective with the FTAA is to guarantee control for North American businesses over a territory which stretches from the Arctic to the Antarctic, free access, over the entire hemisphere, without any difficulty or obstacle, for our products, services, technology and capital". The FTAA is basically a expansion in territory and scope of NAFTA. A giant coalition of activists in South America is preparing week long resistance to oppose the FTAA. They will likely be facing mass police brutality and repression in response to their plans to shut down the meetings. We will march in Solidarity with them and to highlight local opposition to the FTAA and it's predictable consequences.
