Please distribute widely-

Hey everyone. In the next two weeks there are two direct action trainings, a march, a rally, 4 meetings, mass outreach to be done, and more. We need help!!! This is a shortened list of upcoming stuff. Hope to see everyone soon. -POG http://www.organizepittsburgh.org

Wednesday October 16th: 8:00pm meeting 751 Broughton St. Apt 2 (one block from the Cross St of Melville and Baum Blvd). Meeting about the actions on the 25th and 27th. If you want to give input or help plan the actions then please attend. We have a very basic framework, but we would like to get more input on specifics.

Saturday October 19th: 3:00PM William Pitt Union. SCOP/POG Meeting about the Situation at local Universities. We'd like to have a get together where we (students and non-students) can talk about a blueprint for reform. What kind of University are we working towards? What aren't they doing that they should? This meeting is being primarily initiated by the Student Community Organizing Project (SCOP) a student group at Pitt. There is a possibility POG will have another camping excursion in which case this will probably be rescheduled.

Wednesday October 23rd: 6:00PM (Location TBA) Mass Direct Action Training. We will be doing a Non-Violent Direct Action Training in preparation for upcoming events. The event will cover everything you ever wanted to know about direct action. Blockades and more! This is a joint effort of POG, Zi, and The Thomas Merton Center to prepare people to take effective action. All the more timely with War in Iraq quickly approaching.

Thursday October 24th- 6:00PM-10:00PM 751 Broughton St. Apt 2- BANNER-SIGN MAKING for the 25th and 27th along with a last minute rundown before the actions. Bring art supplies.

Friday October 25th. 4:00PM Demonstration For Student Power! Assemble at the Cathedral of Learning lawn at the University of Pittsburgh. No to Corporate Control of the Universities! We demand real student representation in the decision making process. POG and other organizations are locked in a number of bitter and escalating struggles with the University on issues that demand immediate attention (living wage, same sex health care benefits, police accountability, opening the Universities books, and student representation). The Administration has refused for over two months to dialogue or discuss ANYTHING. NO ONE has been willing to meet with us. We will therefore pencil in a meeting with Chancellor Nordenberg on the 25th. We'd like to make a public display of our opposition to the continued Corporatization and recalcitrance of the University.

Sunday October 27th. 6:30PM Global Justice Solidarity. Assemble at David Lawrence Hall at the University of Pittsburgh (3942 Forbes Ave) Protest March to coincide with the FTAA ministerial meetings happening in Quito, Ecuador. At the end of October FTAA ministerial meetings are taking place in Quito, Ecuador. This is the follow up to the Quebec City FTAA meetings in 2001. The purpose of these meetings is to continue working towards adoption of a hemisphere wide "Free Trade Area of the America's" by 2005 (possibly earlier). A giant coalition of groups in South America is preparing week long resistance to oppose the FTAA. They will likely be facing mass police/army brutality and repression in response to their plans to shut down the meetings. They have asked that groups in the Global North have solidarity events to raise awareness of the escalating Hemisphere wide struggle between people and corporate power. We will march in Solidarity with them and to highlight Pittsburgh's opposition to the FTAA and its consequences. We need translators (from Spanish to English and vice versa) to improve communication with the Ecuadorian groups that we are in contact with. They have also asked Pittsburghers to contribute as much as possible to our local imc (http://www.indypgh.org) which will be sending info to Quito so that they know what's going on with us. There is also a call out for an active NOISE BLOC at this event. Please bring musical instruments or other noise making devices along with anything colorful (flags, banners, etc). A group of drummers would be really great! If you had a particular role in DC please consider revisiting it. We need people to do medic work, communications, banner holding, food/water support, and legal support. Arrive as prepared as you would for any large protest. Solidarity!
