this image shows the j26 march route as well as the approximate length of the march, as observed by IMC reporters and City Police.

the first rally was held on bigelow blvd at fifth avenue, with attendees stretching to forbes on bigelow. (note: originally the rally was to be held at either the william pitt union or the cathedral lawn, but the university administration pulled permits at the last minute, angering both organizers and city police. a lawsuit is pending.)
the march went down fifth avenue west to meyran ave, south to forbes, east to craig, then back to fifth. pitt police confirmed a length of at least 4 blocks from hillman library back to meyran ave. imc reporters spotted the front of the march at SEI (fifth and dithridge) while the tail was at forbes & dithridge -- spanning all of south craig street. 5000 is EASILY a lowball number for this crowd.
