There were over 100 protests held throughout the world to mark today, the
5th anniversary of the first arrival of prisoners to Guantanamo.

The protest in Washington DC was organized by Witness Against Torture, a
group of Christians that marched to Guantanamo and held a vigil in
December 2005.

VHS tape or DVD of the march can be obtained thru the Dorothy Day
Catholic Worker House / 202-882-9649

The march went from the Upper Senate in Washington DC to the Supreme Court
to the Federal Court. There were 500 plus in the march with 200 hood
individuals in bright orange prisioner jump suits. With much drama over 40
"prisioners" were attempted to be delivered to the federal court and the
entrance was shut down. the power of the symbolic action spoke volumes to
how the courts are in reality closed to those being tortured and
imprisioned at Guantanamo .

Upon arriving at the Federal Court a motion for the prisioners was filed
with the Chief Judge as activists gathered inside the court house and
began reading the litany of prisoners. Many dropped banners reading "Shut
Down Guantanamo" from the balconies overlooking the atrium.

Also at the Federal Court, inside, 89 were arrested in the autrium...from
the five floors of staircase balcony judges, lawyers, court workers and
others looking on. The the 89 were arrested after revealing t-shirts that
called for Guatanomo Prison to be shut down. When folk were arrested they
intentionally had no ID and gave the names of current prisoners as their
own. All were released, under the names they choose of the imprisoned. By
8pm all were released and ordered toreturn for a trail in April for
two counts of
disorderly contact.

This type of high drama, civil disobeince has never transpired at the DC
Federal Court House.
