PITTSBURGH, August 2 (FPNS) – A new publication titled Mass(es) Media Magazine, which its editor describes as a “monthly publication covering music, movies, television, books, poetry, video games and general culture from a decidedly revolutionary perspective” was launched in the U.S. on Thursday.
The magazine follows in the footsteps of earlier publications like The Masses, the popular socialist magazine published from 1911 to 1917 (when it was shut down by the U.S. government).
“The powers that be have steadily waged a one-sided culture war for decades, propagating ignorance, backward stereotypes and their oppressive ideology – often subtly – through the media and entertainment avenues they control,” Ricardo Santiago, editor of Mass(es), wrote in an editorial in the magazine's first issue. “We were established as a revolutionary alternative; a force to enter the culture war and fight on the side of working people, minorities, undocumented workers, women and the other oppressed segments of society that make up a majority of the population.”
The first issue of Mass(es) contains reviews of Michael Moore’s new film “Sicko” and Guillermo del Toro’s “Pan’s Labyrinth,” along with a commentary on the recent legal troubles of Michel Vick and a number of other articles.
Along with the new publication has come a new website, http://www.massesmediamagazine.com, where the content of current and past issues can be accessed.
