ALCOA and Icelandic Highlands

Reference to AP article appearing on Buffalo Indymedia about hunger strike over ALCOA's plans for "development" in Iceland

Does anyone have further information about what is going on in Iceland, and if there is talk of any "local" Pittsburgh opposition? In June, ALCOA announced plans to build an aluminum smelter and hydroelectric plant in Vatjokull, the largest Eurpopean glacier, in eastern Icedland. There was some environmental group opposition to this in July, but it does not look like they have gotten anywhere with conventional tactics.
