Mt. Oliver rally and march against police brutality
Today, at the Lighthouse Church in Mount Oliver, people gathered to speak out against
the police violence that has been taking place throughout the city and surrounding area. There were maybe 100 or so people in attendance, young & old and everything in between. Moving speeches were made by surviving family members, local activists, the Pittsburgh President of the NAACP, city councilman Saul Udin, and members of the community who had encountered police brutality. All voices rose to the
cries of "We won't stop until justice is served!" and "Enough is Enough!". In case you haven't been following the news, in the span of 5 weeks, 3 African-American men were murdered at the hands law enforcement. Several different factions of police, including the housing authority and Mt. Oliver Police, have been egregiously abusing their authority. The youngest being a 12 year old! A child killed by state police. According to the speakers, the FBI is investigating all three cases. Many supportive motorists honked in solidarity as we marched on 18th street shouting, No Justice! No Peace!
A new community organization has formed around this issue. For more information call any of these following numbers:
