Feb. 15 - Protest Police Brutality and State Oppression
by Rednblack Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003 at 1:04 AM

Call for a last minute showing of support in Uniontown, where Pittsburghers and other locals will call for a further investigation of the death of Michael Ellerbe...

...Let's also make the connection between trigger-happy cops and an economic and political system which perpetuates these violent acts. Let's throw the cops and the bosses they protect off of our backs! We need to end domestic terrorism (in the streets and workplace) as well as international terrorism perpetrated by our "own" government.

Let the people appoint their own panel to investigate! Why are we always asking the state to do something "for" us when we can take power ourselves? Just some food for thought...

_______________

Dear friends,

If you're not going to New York or the SEI for an anti-war protest on
Saturday, you can join the Uniontown march against police brutality,
America's domestic war.

March for Justice for Michael Ellerbe in Uniontown Planned
Over 1,000 Expected to Attend

PITTSBURGH, PA - Upset over the police shooting of 12 year old
Michael Ellerbe and the refusal of the D.A. to file charges, the
community group "People Against Police Violence" has organized a march
demanding for justice for him. It will start at the Mt. Calvary United
Methodist Church on 34 Clark St. in Uniontown, Pa at 1:00 pm on
Saturday, Feb. 15. (From Pittsburgh, take 51 South to Uniontown, turn
left onto E. Main St., turn left onto Connellsville St., the 7th St.
down. Clark St. is the 4th street down on the right. Call 724-437-6341
for more directions.) Several NAACP chapters in the Pittsburgh area are
participating and leadership from the NAACP are among the speakers.
Several car caravans from Pittsburgh have been organized:

. Mt. Oliver: Leaving from the Lighthouse Church at 1761 Arlington
Ave. at 10:30am
. East End: Leaving from the Giant Eagle at Penn. and Shady at
11:00am
. Hill District: Leaving from the Central Baptist Church at

"If they can appoint an independent panel to investigate the Space
Shuttle accident, then certainly they can appoint an independent
prosecutor to file charges against the police who were involved," said
Renee Wilson, director of People Against Police Violence Pittsburgh.
"Michael is everybody's child," added Paula Patterson, a member of the
Uniontown chapter of People Against Police Violence. "We're afraid that
this could happen to our children too." Ms. Patterson can be reached at
724-434-3323.

The newly-formed group People Against Police Violence organized
the march against police brutality on Mt. Oliver on January 20th ,
drawing about 200 people.
