Return of property by police

Has everybody who was arrested M20 had their property returned?

I am trying to find out if anybody else is still trying to track down their belongings from M20. My backpack was cut off of my back by the arresting officer and dropped in the street. It has still not been returned to me. They did not have it at the county jail, they said it might be at the North Side station. I called them and they said i couldn't find out until Monday if they had it. Has anybody else had this experience?

I have not retrieved my backpack either, it contained my keys among other things. It was taken from me in the jail right after I was pat searched. They put a tag with my name on it. I know other people in the same position as us. If people do retreive stuff, please post it here.

Yeah, my stuff and my roommates' stuff is still at the north side . . . "zone 1" or whatever. We're going to go down monday morning and try to get it back. If anybody wants to come with us give me a call (412-973-0510: it's my cell, my name is andy) and we can probably hook you up with a ride. Peace.

same situation

I'm in the same situaton. My keys and cell phone are supposedly in my bag at zone one, when I called yesterday morning I was told I'd have to wait till monday. When I told them my keys to my apartment were in there and I would have to sleep on the street they told me, "don't get arrested on a weekend next time". I didn't get much of a reponse when I said I was arrested at 8pm on Thursday. I had to spend $140 on a locksmith to get into my apartment becuase my lock had to be drilled and my car is still at station square and hopefully hasn't been towed. I'm going to take the reciept down with me on monday when I get my stuff back, and present it after I get my stuff back to ask who's going to reimburse me for that. I was informed by a friend who was told his stuff was at the zone 1 station that he ended up having to go to downtown station actualy because thats where it realy was. We should all contact zone 1 prior to going down there to make sure. Also, did anyone know that your bracelet was a ticket for a free busride home? My friend found out through a guy waiting to be arraigned on a DUI. Interesting how people who've apparently been arrested multiple times and are in for serious crimes were recieving faster processing and better treatment then most of us who'd never been arrested before.

Britches and bikes

Anyone who spent the night in H16 would remember me as the guy in red. They took my shorts, shoes (Converse all stars! The most harmless sneakers ever made!), hat, sweat shirt, and wallet. I'm sure I'm coming off as a total whiner, but there was really no need. I won’t go into any more detail other then to say that I have no keys, and other then the wrist band I haven’t taken off yet, no ID to speak of. Plus, to top it all off, a cold from spending the night in the cell without anything warm to wear.
Does anyone know how or where to get missing bikes? I borrowed a friend’s bike, when the axe dropped and the cops started goin to town on us it was ripped out of my hands and thrown into the street. I heard something about an impound lot. Are we going to have to pay to get them back?

Impound

If you have a vehicle that was impounded, you will probably have to pay to get it out. I don't know if you can get reimbursed later or not. If you don't have any identification, bring something with your name on it, a phone bill, magazine with a mailing label, something. It might help if you have to prove who you are. My backpack was tossed aside, and nobody at the time took down my name or otherwise recorded who it belonged to. If they do have it at zone 1, i will have to prove who i am and probably identify what is in it to get it back. If you had your things taken at the jail, and had them tagged, you'll have an easier time getting them back. And yeah Crispin, i remember you, i was the guy in the orange shirt with the really short hair and goatee.

nothing in the streets
by brian Sunday, Mar. 23, 2003 at 5:27 PM

i was one of the fortunate souls who did not get arrested, and after the cops had calmed down i took a walk through the william penn place area where they brought the hammer down to check for personal belongings. there were no personal belongings left lying around on the streets, so if you don't have it, the cops have it somewhere...do not let them tell you anything to the contrary.

zone 1 is bullshit for many
by Brian Monday, Mar. 24, 2003 at 12:06 AM

Once again, be aware that for most of us the idea of our possessions being in zone one is going to be bullshit. Be prepared to be harrassed as well. A friend of mine went down there after he got out to get his possessions back only be to told there not there and harrassed, he later returned to the jail we were at to find they were actualy there. Just be forceful because they have to give you your things back. I don't know if it's a lie to all of us that our stuff is down there or what. If it is I'm going to be pissed as hell to the officer who told me it's all locked up till monday, cause he could of easily told me then if there was nothing from our arrests there. But they're seriously trying to dick us around as much as possible.
