predictions
by pr0t3s7 Wednesday, Mar. 26, 2003 at 11:12 PM

I know that none of us can accurately predict the future, but I'd like to know what people expect for sunday (in regard to the actions of the police). Will they make another attempt at the mass arrests perpetrated on March 20, or will they be more tolerant of our actions, as they were at the demonstrations prior to last Thursday? What made the police decide to conduct mass arrests downtown, but not at previous events in oakland and shadyside? I'm not sure what to expect, but as I was just arrested last week I'd like to be careful, while maintaining a level of active participation.

my predication is it will be obvious when we get there what they intend. POG is obviously not going to let the march get into a situation where mass arrests are possible. If we're greated by 100 riot cops we're in trouble, but I'd expect we'll be able to march. By the same token I don't think the cops can afford to arrest another 100 people.

Murphy flinches, don't flinch, too
by Mike from the H-Blocks Thursday, Mar. 27, 2003 at 6:19 AM

Fear not, comrades. The State has blinked. The last thing that they want is a repeat of 3/20, which is why they waived their 45 day rule. Rookie mistakes were made, on both sides (more on that later). Run a google search and see for yourself. Asia Times, al Jazeera, Aussie papers, CNN, etc. Not a good way to attract young people to the region, when the Singapore wire service is reporting repression and targeting of youth.
Since Bush's war started, there have been at least 3 times as many Americans taken into custody in the US, than Iraqi POW's. There were more protesters arrested in San Francisco (3,500+), alone, than surrendering Iraqis taken.
If you can sit back and watch the Deserter in Chief beaming about how proud he is to send poor people to kill other poor people, despite his own refusal to do so in Vietnam, and talking about the sacrifices he has made( I don't know what he meant, but surely not the lives of others), your self-control is impressive. To stay home Sunday will be the same kind of cowardly desertion.
Personally, I feel it's critical that we get the 122 all out on Sunday. I don't think you need to be told why.

good

Mike, in which cell did you stay on thursday? Perhaps we have met. From conversations in jail it appeared that everyone who was arrested (that I spoke with) intends on coming out on sunday. Not only that, but the people in my cells were definitely radicalized and are now open to new ideas. What is the 45-day rule? Oh, and by the way, that comparison of mass arrests to military detainments was excellent.

I believe I did the entire H-Block tour. Run a search on "H-Blocks" and you'll notice a strange coincidence.
Safe money says we did at least and few hours together. I was the guy in the leather coat and brown boots who kept demanding, via intercom, the chaplin, Kosher and/or veg meals for my comrades, and legal representation ( none of which were delivered).
The 45 day rule is the advance notice demanded by the city to grant a march permit. The insta-permit (which made the corporate news) is either a clear sign of regret by the State or an ambush.
It does my little heart good to hear that there will be at least 122 people present on Sunday.

pr0t3s7, a few more things
by Mike Thursday, Mar. 27, 2003 at 12:05 PM

Your piece on celebrating diversity of tactics was excellent!
People at my "real job" (sorry freepers) regardless of their stance on Bush's war are also intrigued by the mass dententions of US citizens for exercising what are 1st Amendment rights to them (human rights to me).
See you Sunday.

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY
by wheatpaster Thursday, Mar. 27, 2003 at 2:40 PM

I'm so glad people will be marching in the streets this Sunday! The main reason unpermitted marches were always safe this past month was police are unable to get large swat teams on a Sunday: our local department is in deep financial trouble with paying overtime. Also, the areas we have marched in are not high risk of damage like downtown buildings. With enough marchers, there is no reason we cannot proceed on a snake march following the exact same tactics. Taking the streets back will inspire the whole activist community to stop living in fear and continue demonstrating our rights!

Stop business as usual until this rotten Bush administration stops the bombing!!

Tim, you rule! I hope that everyone comes out...The more folks that show, the less risk of arrest. If we stay together, the cops wont be able to arrest us! Stay strong.

is there a plan for the march?
by Anthony Friday, Mar. 28, 2003 at 12:30 PM

so is there any destination of this march or is just going to be random like it seems to have been at the last few? i realize that it would be hard to distribute information on where the march would go or end up without it falling into the wrong hands (cops) but wouldn't it be safer if maybe someone had a general idea of where we're going to go and stayed up front directing people? i was one of the few, or should i maybe say many who were arrested and i doubt it will happen again because its a Sunday during the daytime and we're not downtown but you can't be to sure with these things. i would have to say that lack of organization on some peoples parts and marching after dusk was one of our biggest mistakes last time even though i think the cops are the ones who made the mistakes by starting a riot, i think you know what i mean. on another note, our strength is definitely in numbers so try to get as many people as you know that might be interested in it to come. i would post or hand out some flyers but i can't find any other than the one i have.

Info on the March
by -- Friday, Mar. 28, 2003 at 2:28 PM

As we learned during the May Day debacle of 2000, if you tell everyone the route for an unpermitted march beforehand, the police can set a trap for ALL the marchers. By keeping police guessing, we can steer clear of traps.

POG always has a large banner which reads STOP ALL WAR and another that says NO BLOOD FOR OIL. The people who carry the banners are kept aware of the route, and are very approachable. POG also has a bullhorn. The younger person carrying the bullhorn from POG is usually also aware of the march route and is equally approachable. All that business about approachablity is out the window if you look like an undercover cop, just to be aware. :-)

Our family will all be there too - bandana'd, if kids' ll wear them (open to question at this point)
No one should let March 20 scare them away. It's all the more reason to be there and keep solidarity. Bring yourselves, your moms, your neighbors, your kids and all the spirit and determination you had before, and then some. They do great veggie dogs at Dees in Regent's Square, 5 minutes away, for those who don't feel like doing the cold picnic thing in the snow.
We just regret that the paintsburgh/peaceburgh thing had to be at the same time. Wonder what happened there...

i've been kinda concerned about the pgh peace movement in the past days. with the events of 3.20, discussion of DOT and "violent"? protesters...
yeah the weather will be shitty tomorrow and im sure people are concerned about different things but lets remember--there are many many people being slaughtered right now in the name of 'freedom loving people'-lets put the bullshit behind us and not forget why we're out here.
