April 27 Waterfront protest
by Jeff Phillips Sunday, Apr. 27, 2003 at 12:55 PM

Waterfront non-violent protest cancelled

I received a telephone call from Max of Zi (sounds like a character from Flash Gordon) at 12:30 today, saying that there are hundreds of police officers already gathered at the Waterfront, and that anyone who shows up for today's non-violent protest will be arrested even before a group can gather. Zi has thus cancelled the event, as it seems that no positive result can come of people gathering today.

Awaiting confirmation
by Dan P. Sunday, Apr. 27, 2003 at 2:16 PM

Hi, I'm one of the 6 or so Zi members who organized this event, and while I wasn't able to make it out there this morning I did not get an email from anyone on the group along these lines, which is surprising.

I'm currently waiting for a confirmation from the group and will then get back to everyone.

Update
by Dan P. Sunday, Apr. 27, 2003 at 2:34 PM

Hey, I just got off the phone from a contact at the group, and here's what happened: There was a large police presence at the waterfront, not "hundreds" but significant, and the group agreed to only walk around the waterfront wearing homemade anti-war clothing (they wrote on each others shirts) - this continued for awhile, but eventually the organizers (Zi) were thrown out. There are still some people there walking around.
