April 27 Waterfront protest continues, despite massive police presence
Just minutes ago, I posted a message saying that members of Zi had cancelled today's non-violent protest at the Waterfront shopping area due to a large police presence and the threat of immediate arrests. In a second call, Max has said that the protest will continue for the time being, but that the actions of protesters and media alike have been severely restricted. Protesters are not being allowed to carry signs, distribute literature, etc.--at present, the only form of protest which does not seem to invite arrest is wearing clothing with anti-war messages (or writing such messages on one's own clothing). Media representatives who have shown up are not being allowed to document the events with cameras or even notebooks. The justification for these restrictions is that the shopping area is private property, so that the owners have the right to ask anyone who does something which they find objectionable (including carrying signs or reporting on news events) to leave the premises.
