The May 1st march and rally in New Castle has been canceled.

The May 1st march and rally in New Castle has been canceled. We are currently seeking legal action with the ACLU in the wake of police not cooperating with the city council's decision to let us use the square in the center of town. The cancellation will be announced at a press conference tomorrow at noon that is being done in relation to Senator Santorum's remarks. If you could alert everyone you know ASAP it would be much appreciated.

Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience,

Isaac Ludwig
Westminster Green Party PR Chair

New Castle

Some day you'll grow up and get a real job and pay taxes and agree with council's decision. You do have a right to free speech. However, I dont feel you have a right to waste my tax money for your socialist causes that are rooted in your utter disdain for our commander in chief. I encourage you to exercise your rights. But i dont think that an economically depressed (and strangely enough democrat controlled through the years ;)) city should have to foot the bill for police officers to cover it. As an emergency responder, i find it disgraceful that you would expect overtime police protection so that you can let everybody in new castle know how much you hate president bush, meanwhile they are having difficulty in providing adequate police protection for real emergencies.

Go exercise your rights in some corn field in new wilmington.

First of all, we already agree with the city council's decision to allow the event to occur. It's the police who are refusing to abide by it.

Secondly, I've yet to see a protest where anyone needed protection from protesters. The crowds that come to these events are far better behaved than say, the crowd heading in towards a Pitt game (I was at a protest once where we almost needed protection from them, mind you!)

Counterprotesters are the only reason that police would ever be needed, and moreoften than not they're not there. Complain about *them* wasting your tax dollars, not lawful protesters.
