m20 appeal on tuesday

hey all--

so yeah, tuesday does = the date of the m20 appeal. mark eggerman and i will be appearing in court, represented by mike healey (to whom we are eternally grateful!) . . . lotsa people have asked about coming downtown; apparantly it is entirely possible ethat although we must be at the courthouse at 8:30am we might not actually be tried until much later in the day. nonetheless, do feel free to stop by and say hi if so you wish!

anyways, i'll let y'all know how things went after they do . . .

Let Justice Be Served
by JackEl Sunday, Jun. 29, 2003 at 10:58 PM

You broke the law
You were outta hand
Public disruption is always bad
Now in the pokey you will land

Why do you cry
if going to jail for your beliefs
is what you preach
now let's just hope your soap stays in reach

You posted your intent
You taunted the cops
on confrontation
you were bent

You could have listened to the police
you could have avoided the fight
but you went there looking
for a riot to incite

You wrote about it here
And when they used it there
You were amazed
that the police prefer their donuts unglazed

Premeditated civil obstruction
is a crime and not a statement
You could have had a permit
You could have been polite and not thrown a fit

You found what you got
since it was what
you wanted
you should like it alot

With a paperbox you fought
It must have carried a message
that you found objectionable
so then you met the Constable

In Court you tried
to tell us how you cried
when you heard
that George Bush was a warbird

So you made us all wait
in traffic we were late
because to your dogmatic word
there was no debate

If they didn't care about freedom for Iraq
It was their cars
Their buildings and paperboxes
that you would attack

The police to you are an instrument
Of an unjust state
with justice perverse
That is why your tactics are diverse

"It wasn't me"
"It was him"
"I listened carefully to your orders"
"Your honor, my love has no borders"

To our police I say
It is never an easy day
everyone blames you
with never a kind word to say

For this I offer
A tactic diverse from all you have seen
Mr. Policeman I say
Thank You for keeping our streets clean

This Haiku is meant for you
I know it is bad
But after reading prison graffiti
it is this that you will wish you still had

This poem belongs on the global wire
by Critic Sunday, Jun. 29, 2003 at 11:13 PM

This is some of the finest, if not the only troll poetry I've ever read. Or are millions of freepers baring their souls in touching verse? If there's other stuff out there like this, maybe the IMC's could pulbish a troll art and poetry collection. Art therapy has proven beneficial to schizoprenics, so why not freepers?

Were you there?
by Dan P. Sunday, Jun. 29, 2003 at 11:17 PM

I was there, and while not arrested, I saw what happened. The police arrested people who were on the sidewalks. The police arrested an ACLU legal observer for the crime of taking notes. The police shoved a photographer from my school's newspaper to the ground. The police cornered a crowd, trapped them into an area, gave an order to disperse, and arrested them because the crowd had no possible way to obey the order.

People were in the sidewalks. That's not disruption, that's legitimate assembly: and it *should* be protected by the first amendment.

Freeper Poetry Contest
by Bob Rosh Monday, Jun. 30, 2003 at 8:06 AM

That really is clever and funny, in a freeper sort of way. I think that The Critic is on to something BIG here. I suggest that IMC sponsor a Freeper/Troll Poetry Contest. We could do a feature article inviting all of the trolls in from the cold to regale us with their troll art. Then have one page where they could post there stuff. After a week or two we could all then vote for the best troll art. Look at it this way, it would keep them busy and out of the important discussions on the wire.

Maybe a whole seprate IMC?
by Critic Monday, Jun. 30, 2003 at 11:11 AM

Like the special event IMC's. It could be like the refrigator where parents hang their children's bad art.

Two Thoughts
by Sam Monday, Jun. 30, 2003 at 3:25 PM

1. That wasn't a haiku. A haiku has three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables.

2. Why have a freeper poetry contest, when you can have freeper Russian Roulette?
