My understanding of foreign and domestic issues is still better than the pampered little Connecticut cokehead.
Bush is on a monthlong working (campaign fundraising) vacation. The corporate takeover of iraq costis 1 billion a week, a billion and a half with interest. The tax dollars spent there belong in the US, to take care of its citizens, not paying Halliburton contracts. So I don't see where the confusion comes in.

Who the flip cares why we are occupying Iraq, just so long as we ARE occupying Iraq. No matter how you look at it, this is a good thing. It will change the dynamic of the middle east for the better. And if we get some more Texas Tea out of the deal consider it a side benefit for us all and a bad day for OPEC.
Hell, street theater isn't even effective theater,so how the heck do you expect it to be effective protest.. Oh, I forgot, you guys woke up this morning and unfortunately for the rest of the world your were still stupid.

Working class Americans are being killed daily to pad the Bush crime family bank accounts. Has anybody told the Sock-Stuffed Fight Suit in Chief that oil prices have gone up? What does it matter to one who has probably never pumped his own gas.?
The Cheerleader from Connecticut who pretends to be a cowboy has created the ultimate operating base for other fundementalist nutjobs who enjoy killing people.
It has made the US safer though, because the people who want to kill Americans can get into Iraq to do so with alot less red tape than you run into in the US.

VERY ENTERTAINING. The Left is hilarious. It is like one nonstop political clown convention. "Street Theater For Peeace" "Starbucks is the cause of all economic injustice" "Only holistically grown coffee from leftist coops can save us from damnation" "All sex between a man and womyn is rape since the patriarchy has made it so that womyn can not freely consent" "Fight justice with a leftist lynch mob" "protect freedom of speech adn open media by closing the media to anyone we don't like".
Now that is HILARIOUS

This media isn't closed to anyone "we don't like" Obviously, if you read the comments, tons of people come on here specifically to bash anything we say. For example, YOU boy about town. Are you blind? or maybe just extremely dumb?
Me, you are teh one who is blind (or stupid)
by Boy About Town

There are not tons of people on here. It seems like it is the same handful of people. And they are all probably in the crowd shots from the IMC open house last week. And yes this is a closed club. The IMC editors hide comments and even lock out the people that they don't like. Maybe that is why the participation here is only by people that share the same extremist left views. That is the point --- this is not "open" media it is just "leftist" media. If you do not share the leftist view then you are stupid, a spammer or a troll or a freeper or just here to make trouble. Why don't you go back and read some of the postings by Evan K. IMC locked her/him out completely and then just bashed her/him when she/he tried to get them to change what they did. Evan K. sure didn't seem like one of those people that you don't like who you say come here just to bash everything you say. Unless you take the standard IMC position that anyone with an opinion or position different than yours, counter to yours, or which challenges yours, must obviously be attacking you. If you think about it ME, your IMC pals do just as much bashing of the people who disagree with you.

"Boy about town"s contention that "IMC editors hide comments and even lock out people they don't like" is belied by the fact that "boy about town"'s comments are still up, as are a set of obnoxious comments that appeared last Sunday AM. That also suggests that it is *not* the case that "participation here is only by those who share the same...views".
For the record (and as noted in the archives of the editorial listserv), I hid a comment yesterday that consisted of nothing but X's.
I personally find some of the comments posted pretty offputting, particularly those which seem intended to provoke (as opposed to those by folks like Brian, who has suggested not divvying people up into categories).
Participation is open to everyone. If you have concerns about any IMC stuff, you are welcome to become involved and work to change things. If you don't want to do that, feel free to discuss your concerns with editorial folks (posting to the editorial listserv would be one way to do this.) I think I can speak for other editorial folks as well as myself in saying that we want to see things work, we want to hear peoples' concerns, and we want to find ways to work through problems. It is easier to do this if someone expresses a concern as opposed to saying "you folks are all assholes" (and yes, both *sides*, if there are such, have engaged in this, and it does seem like war on a personal, rather than a global, scale.)

ME called me names. But that really isnt the point. It is really offputting that the IMC Editors also engage in the "divvying" and name calling. I thought they were editors. But they are manipulaters. Sure your left my comments up, and maybe you left someone else's comments up. But you have banished others and in many cases unjustly. What did you ever do about Evan K.?

I didn't call you names boy about town, I asked if you were blind or stupid. I don't think you are stupid for having your opinions if they are different from mine. I asked if you saw that most of the people that come on here who are against the articles/news posted here (and I don't care if they are right, left, or up my ass), are just coming on to provoke and make fun.
Also, I keep hearing how Evan K. and others were "locked out" from the website and not able to post, but all his postings are on the website! They are all about him being blocked, but he's not. Anyone can read his posts. What, specifically, did he write about? I would like to read them. Maybe he has a website he can direct people to that we can read his so called blocked articles!!!!!!!! Or maybe he is just an instigator to get people to think that this website is not so open. I WANT PROOF!

Me, you either can not read or are stupid. Go back and read Evan's postings. All the proof you need is there. As I undersatnd it, IMC did something using cookies to idenitfy Evan and his/her workplace internet access. This prevents her/him from accessing IMC. The only way she/he had been posting is by using someone else's computer. Just because Evan has gone to the extraordinary lengths of posting does not mean that IMC has not tried to bannish him/her.
What is worse is that IMC has admitted that they did this cookie thing to several other posters. But we do not know how many were affected, because Evan seems to be the only one who has actually taken the trouble to find another PC to post from. Me, what if IMC locked you out of accessing from your home computer. Because you then had to use someone else's computer to post from would this mean that IMC had not excluded you.
Maybe Evan can give us an update, but no one seems to have posted (and the IMC editors are actively aviding the issue) to tell us whether IMC has done anythng to correct this.
It is just one of the things that has made IMC an ineffective organization serving a limited clique which has no tolerance for any views other than their own. It isn't just right or left, but effects the interaction of all views on the left. For example, if you oppose some of the more radical action to be conducted at the protests your views are shouted down here. If you suggest that we should go out of our way to demonstrate that we are not antogonizing the police, then you are considered an ignorant troll. If you suggest that the existence of a black bloc and padded bloc does nothing but bait hostility, then your views are deemed uworthy of any place in the "radical" community.
And by Evan's experience the IMC editors have demonstrated their willingness to take some extreme measures to silence anyone that they think is not desirable here. Even when it began to appear that they may have made a mistake in the case of Evan, they were more concerned with calling him a spammer and troll than with examining the effect of their action or considering that they may have made a mistake. If the police applied that same standards to anyone here there would be mass protests by IMC. But when IMC is exercising the power the rules change.

To the best of my knowledge, there has been no Ewan-workplace lockout.
There have been lots of things posted that were critical of IMC'ers. In the time that I've been involved with IMC, I haven't seen any posts hidden due to their being critical of IMC. On the other hand, I was hassled for engaging in a discussion of whether to hide (as opposed to simply hiding) the dead-g-w picture. So, I feel criticized for censoring and criticized for not censoring- hard to sort that out.
I would like to respond to your saying that you are shouted down or called a troll for having differing opinions. There has been a lot of that, coming from various people and directed at various people. I personally cringe when I see "all cops are" whatever, as well as "all IMC'ers are" whatever. Nor should that be taken as representative of IMC editorial policy.
Speaking as someone who reads & posts here rather than as an editor (since the stated purpose of this enterprise is to get out news that isn't covered elsewhere), I'd be happy to see this as a place where people can get information, state opinions and work out differences, as opposed to doing the equivalent of shouting at each other. (Not that I haven't been guilty of doing lots of that myself and making lots of mistakes, but I'm trying to learn to see the shades of gray.) There has been a lot of discussion of antiwar activities here; I do think it will be difficult to think about this at the global or national level if we can't engage in respectful discussion at the individual level.
Truce?

Mary,
My issue is more with the rather exclusionary nature of IMC and the groups/events promoted here. I mean all you have to do is read some of the discussion about yesterday's rally. The militant factions will absolutely not hear any of what the more moderate voices are saying. And yes, the presence of a 'militant' bloc that seems to want to be considered intimidating (whether it is to the police or whoever) is a turn off to MANY people that might consider involvement in some of these actions. I understand that I don't have to partake of that intimidating activity, but when it is present you can not ignore it. It taints the entire group.
IMC seems to conduct itself that way often. Great that you seem to be a more moderate voice, more reasonable. But I don't think even you are seeing this concern without your own bias (favorable) of IMC getting in the way. Since I brought it up, I went back and read Ewan's (not Evan - my mistake) postings. I think that he/she laid it out pretty clearly that the IMC cookie tool somehow locked out her/his workplace. That shoudln't be too much of a surprise since IMC did set the cookie on Ewan and others for the specific result of excluding them from IMC. I noticed that one of the people that IMC was after was someone going by the name of "2balls." But that person (an obvious agitator and spammer) appears to have been un affected by the cookie tool.
Yet, when Ewan makes her/his case, it is ignored by IMC. IMC's postings there were rather dismissive of the claims. IMC even seemed to judge Ewan a liar, spammer or other unwanted soul, without any evidence that he/she had done anything wrong.
The fact that IMC felt that it was acceptable to use some hi-tech program to keep anyone off of the site is evidence of the Rule by Fiat style of the editors. after re-reading Ewan's postings I would really like to know what it was that IMC did back then, and if they think that it is acceptable to do this again. But Ewan isn't the only case of this type of rude and exclusionary conduct. It can be found in other conversations on the IMC site. It is clear that there are classes of people here: IMC/POG favorites, Leftist militants, moderates (not part of the club but tolerated at cocktail conversation), and all others (broadly, that means freepers/trolls/etc.).
Mary, good luck and maybe your more evenhanded and open philosophy will take hold and improve IMC.

Boy,
I see IMC as being about as exclusionary as anyplace else- where I work, the PTA at my kid's school, whatever. I think that's just kind of the way the world is, and the times when you are feeling disenfranchised are probably the times when it is most important to be persistent so you can change things. If you have problems with the IMC, be the IMC.
I don't agree with everything posted here, but in general I applaud the idealism and the wish to make the world a better place of the serious posters (as opposed to people who seem to just want to stir up problems).
Events like Sunday's: I think if you look for it, you'll see the diversity.
As for why the cookie didn't affect 2 balls/beers, it's because it wasn't invoked. I know that for a fact.
Your sharing your feelings of being excluded should give some of us something to think about, and point to the potential value of your involvement.
This has gotten pretty much off-topic from the original post. Feel free to follow up off-list, with me or other ed folks.
