ultimate

Hey, everytime I come to a rally/march or whatever, people look at me like I am a freak or an undercover cop. I have no friends who are like me (who are into anarchism, veganism, anti-imperialism) and I come to these things alone. I really see that no one trusts me and they are afraid I am an undercover cop. This pisses me off.

To Freak...
by Anon Friday, Aug. 15, 2003 at 4:59 AM

Hey Freak, I know what you mean. The activist crowd can defintely seem elitist at first - but its pretty easy to prove yourself and gain trust. Trust is not just handed out for many reasons, not the least of which is security. Come out to some events, introduce yourself to a few people... Get involved in some meetings. The trust you want is right there, you just have to build it.

This is the problem
by unity Friday, Aug. 15, 2003 at 5:18 AM

You have to remember Pittsburgh is a VERY clicky town. Some clicks are tougher to break into than others. I don't like it either - its not the way it should be but....... You cannot blame folks for being paranoid that you may be a cop. There are undercover cops @ rallys/marches who attempt to infiltrate the movement. But I can tell you this, if you support veganism, anti-imperialism, anarchism I want to talk with you @ a rally. Come down on A24 and make an effort to try and make some local contacts in the movement.

There is this attitude in PGH of "oh, who is that?", or "I've never seen you @ a demo before" - which people have actually said to me before!!!! This is a major problem. It is one of the major flaws of the local anti-war movement. Of course, John has the right idea about getting involved but sometimes that is the hardest part. The anti-war community needs to be more accepting to people it does not know. That's the whole reason why people post things here, flyer, email and do everything possible to get attendance @ rally's and then you show up and there is a lack of unity, acceptance is absent. This is a very important point that needs to be addressed and fixed. Lets start on August 24

"Click" means a sharp sound. "Clique" means a small and exclusive group of people.

freakshow is right !!!
by 2 beers Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003 at 8:02 AM

It will certainly be a "freakshow." Hey feaks, just a thought ... anytime you have to say that you are going to give people a "wake up" call it is a pretty good indication that they don't want to hear from you in the first place. Everyone hates the alarm clock. It is probably because they have already thought about this stuff and they want you to just SHUT UP AND LEAVE THEM ALONE. Enough of your ridiculous whining and hating already. Haters !! HATE HATE HATE !!!! That is all you espouse. Now go home and get some sleep. We'll give you a call when it is time to wake up.
