for Pittsburgh Indymedia : CTV reports the Canadian Defence Minister stating that the blackout was caused by a fire in a Pennsylvania Nuclear Power station

National Defence Minister John McCallum raised eyebrows when he told reporters in a conference call Thursday evening the trigger event was a fire at a nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania.

Why wasn't this announcement at a press conference call that a fire at a nuclear plant in Pennsylvania triggered the blackouts not seen on any other news outlets in Canada or the US? Go to the link below to hear the entire audio by Canada's Defence Minister John McCallum.

Last night to kill some time I turned on the 11PM news. Think it was Channel 11. They made a passing reference to the Canadians saying that a fire at a PA power plant had caused the problem, then added that the US said that this was not the case. The US was saying that problems in Canada like a lightning bolt caused the blackout. I thought the whole thing rather funny. They showed folks from Norhtwest PA flocking to the Home Depot in Cranberry. People were buying portable generators. They even turned the event into a nice advertisement for Home Depot. Maybe Home Depot caused the blackout? Hey! (I am sorry.)
