People Against Police Violence under attack; Director to surrender herself to police today at 4 PM

Renee Wilson, director of People Against Police Violence (PAPV) will turn herself into police today at 4 PM at the Municipal Courts Building, 660 First Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh in response to a warrant issued by a Mt. Oliver magistrate. PAPV is scheduled to march in Mt. Oliver this Saturday.

The charges, which have no merit, were initiated by Mt. Oliver police after PAPV applied for a permit to march there to demonstrate for justice for two men who were killed in the borough Charles Dixon, killed on December 21 by Mt. Oliver and Pittsburgh police, and Damian Jordan, who died in Mt. Oliver police custody in 1999.

Two weeks ago, three members of Ms. Wilsons family were arrested while handing out flyers for the event in Mt. Oliver. Similar charges to those brought against Ms. Wilson were brought.

According to Nathaniel Glosser, president of the Rosenberg Institute for Peace & Justice, PAPVs sponsoring organization, all of the charges brought are a result of PAPVs advocacy for prosecution of members of the Mt. Oliver police. Theyre scared, so they are pulling out all the stops bringing trumped-up charges against Ms. Wilson and her family in an effort to get them to back off. They want us to cancel the march and keep our mouths shut so that the deaths of Damian and Charles will be forgotten. We will not stop. We will not back off. Ms. Wilson will not go away. Nor will I nor the other members of PAPV. What the Mt. Oliver officials do not realize is that even if they succeed in jailing us, there are a dozen people ready to step up and take the lead. The peace and justice community will not stop until we have justice for Damian and Charles, until we have justice for all the victims of police violence, and until we stop all future acts of needless police brutality and killing.

Everyone will find out for sure tomorrow I'm sure, but from what I understand they're all checks & ATM related charges, like with her kids, except some on the felony level so not just misdemeanors. Of course, the real story here is how Renee is continuing to fight back against this pile-on of charges, piled on her by a police force she's working with others to fight against for piling on an innocent man to death.

People Against Police Violence press conference reveals FBI investigation into police misconduct in Mt. Oliver Borough; March to be held in Mt. Oliver on Saturday

This morning, People Against Police Violence (PAPV) held a press conference this morning to release details about police misconduct in Mt. Oliver. PAPV revealed that the FBI was investigating The Mt. Oliver police in the deaths of Damian Jordan and Charles Dixon, as well as making an inquiry into the harassment arrests of PAPV Director Renee Wilson and her family.

Ms. Wilson surrendered herself to police yesterday evening on charges instigated by the Mt. Oliver Police. She was arraigned at 2AM and bail was set at a full $10,000, despite the expectation that shed be released without bail due to her lack of criminal record and the fact that she surrendered herself voluntarily. Bond was posted by 6 am, and Ms. Wilson was released shortly after 10 am.

Charges included were theft by deception, writing bad checks and ATM fraud, and criminal conspiracy, which PAPV maintains are baseless and were drawn up in retaliation for PAPVs advocacy of criminal prosecution for Mt. Oliver and Pittsburgh officers involved in the death of Charles Dixon on December 21, and for prosecution of some of the same officers from Mt. Oliver who were involved in the death-in-custody of Damian Jordan in 1999.

On August 19, Ms. Wilsons daughter and son, members of PAPV, were arrested while handing out flyers advertising a PAPV march for justice in Mt. Oliver scheduled for this coming Saturday, September 6 at 2 pm. Charges including bank fraud were initiated by the Mt. Oliver police department against these two plus Ms. Wilsons daughter-in-law and her former husband in an attempt to dissuade Ms. Wilson and PAPV from continuing to press for criminal charges against the Mt. Oliver police.

Despite this kind of patently illegal pressure, PAPV and Ms. Wilson will not be deterred. In addition to filing criminal charges against Ms. Wilsons loved ones., Mt. Oliver Borough attempted to block PAPV members first amendment rights to freedom of speech and assembly by making it difficult to get a parade permit for the march planned for Saturday. When it became apparent that Mt. Oliver would have no option but to grant the permit after The Greater Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union became involved, agreeing to take the case to Federal court if a permit was not issued, the police began looking for Ms. Wilson to arrest her as well. A permit which was finally issued today.

The march is scheduled to begin at 2 PM at Lighthouse Church, 1761 Arlington Ave., which is in the City of Pittsburgh, just over the Mt. Oliver line. Pittsburgh has indicated that a permit will be issued for that portion of the march.

--Wilson is herself being charged with bad checks, access device fraud, and criminal conspiracy--

Guarantee you she did it. I bet she has a papertrail of bad checks and video taken from ATM machines a mile long.

Ode To Renee Wilson
by a poem Friday, Sep. 05, 2003 at 5:17 AM

Righteous ones
Enter the world of the downtrodden
Never to see freedom it seems
Each of us must speak up
Each of us count
Inside us all lies the strength
Seldom does one stand up as they should
Again we see such a one
Never satisfied with the status quo
In her we see that one
Going forward, not looking back
Gathering together those of like mind and cause
Energy, like light, shining so brightly
Renee, you go girl!!

A Poem
by 2beers Tuesday, Sep. 09, 2003 at 5:07 AM

Righteous ones
These activists and leftists are
Enter the world of the downtrodden for sport and fashion
Never to see freedom and justice it seems
Each of them should just shut up
Each of us count on them to say something stupid
Inside us all lies the strength to think beyond leftist mottos and diatribe
Seldom does the activist do more than bitch and moan
Again there is such a one
Never satisfied with the status quo
We see that one can make money on the banking system
Going forward, not looking back for the security cameras
Gathering together those of like mind and cause
Larceny, like light, shining so brightly
To them we can say, "there are laws against that, girl!"
