for pittsburgh indymedia: Project 1877 is in jeopardy -- local support is needed immediately to keep the space running. On Wednesday September 10th at 7pm an emergency meeting will be held at project 1877.
Project 1877 may not be able to continue due to lack of core organizers and volunteers, as well as funding issues.
So, an emergency meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 10th at 7pm, at 1877. This is an extremely important project to a ton of folks and Pittsburgh in general, and it would be sad to lose such a great resource. If you care about this space it is imperative that you attend, otherwise it may be gone in less than a month. Bring ideas and energy!

i am all about 1877 and places like it, but i have only seen a few days where that place looks like it is going somewhere. i have to say that it was dissapointing to try to do community service for you guys and i was not contacted back, also everytime i went in there it looked like a bunch of dirt balls loafing off the freebees and hanging out in dirty clothes with all intentions to do something and nothing seemes to be accomplished. get motivated and stop being pissed off at the system. rock it instead of being rocks.

You need to use the many channels of information dissemination to get your info across to people. You guys have a really unique and valuable space. What you need to do is reach out to a much broader community base to promote your multi-use facililty. Many people have heard about 1877 but few have ever checked it out. Open houses, collaborative events, community outreach, and more professional approach (even without a formal 501c) can help you strengthen your own financial and personnel base. A couple people from our group visited your center once, but nobody seemed to care much of their presence even though they were there to scope your center as a potential venue for future events. Too often people in this city stay in their own cliques, and that includes the activist community too. Only way good things like your center and other venues in the Penn Ave corridor are going to survive is through cross-pollination. One place you can start is our website, we maintain it strictly as an ad-free community-oriented informational resource hub. We've found that while funding for positive initatives like yours is tight in today's local economic climate, information exchange can end up being a much more powerful currency. In anycase, keep doing what you're doing - it's the struggle that gives meaning to the reward.
