Thursday montour high school had random Drug searches.. and something doesn't seem quite right..
Thursday 7:55 a.m All montour high school student had an emergancy lock down. At montour high school the lock down is when every one must go to homeroom. no students is alowed to come in or out of any room.after about an hour of waiting in the same room i saw that the k-9 was at the school right away i knew i was a drug search.
now see that i wasn't so mad about. what i was mad about as being lied to. Montour school will not release any information to students aside from it was a drug search. i feel that some students had thier right violated, some sudents had ti stand against that wall and spead thier book and papers on the floor as the dog went and smells everything in cluding our lockers.
*extra Information that is odd*
-this drug search had been schedgled for months according cheif vitmir(the cheif of Robinson Police). This was also planed to be our school picture day. it was also the day all students had to have an eye exam.
-also the picture studio was never there to set up in the morning like they always do.
- the lock down was call after attendace. so if a kid with drugs were to escape they were know he was accounted for.
- it was said that a parent call the school after the kid call the parent and told them what was going on . that school said " the was a water main break"
-this all happend right after John Ashcroft was here promoting the patriot acts ( and it's use on DOMESTIC criminals)
so if any of this Sound weird to anyone else. call montour school and ask then what happebnd thursday.412 490 6500 #3

This is nothing new. Random drug searches have been going on for years. And it's not like it violates your rights. I have always supported policy that helps keep students on the straight and narrow while at school, or complimentary workers at work. If you are at school/work, leave the drugs at home. If it is against policy it's against policy. I'm an avis supporter of the decriminalization of adult marijuana use. I feel pre-employment drug screening and random drug tests are rights violations. But drug searches at school or work are legitimate. They are no places for drugs. And use a spill chucker next time, and stick to good grammar at least.

Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
THAT IS PRETTY CLEAR; yes your rights were violated.
http://www.aclu.org/DrugPolicy/DrugPolicy.cfm?ID=9261&c=79
If I were you I would tell my principal that if this ever happens again, you will sue. He might say that the lockers are not your property, but the material inside of them is yours. I would point out that this has happened before and the courts have ruled that random searches are unconstitutional.
As soon as you mention the words ACLU and SUE, the school will back down immediately. At least that has been my accounts.
For the record: I am straightedge, I do not do drugs in any form. I am soo sick of schools thinking they have power over students. My philosophy is that they can only control you if you let them.
Ps: Currently I am looking in to why our texts books are made by war profiteering company General Electric, and our "Civics" book is completely biased and has opinions in it, not fact.
did that happen to you?

I am a montour grad and hearing that about MHS doesn't really surprise me...but that is immaterial.
If you want to know if you rights were violated, don't rely on #IV, because that doesn't quite apply to 'minors'...I would write the ACLU (313 Atwood St Pgh Pa) to request "Know Your Rights: A Manual For Public School Students in PA"
What?

What are you trying to say? I don't get this post at all. What are the weird circumstances? I can't decipher anything based on the bad spelling and diction.

Hey peppy-rpgh, should I ever get a divorce, I want you to be my spouse's attorney.
>>As soon as you mention the words ACLU and SUE, the school will back down immediately. At least that has been my accounts (sic).<<
That's because you're a walking, breathing dumbass!!
Here's the ticket, MHS student. Get this loud and clear:
You do not *threaten* to sue. You either do it...... or you don't.
You'e going to find there is no violation. But go for it! Piss away your money. See if I care.

why would anyone even go to a publik skool, get your ged if anything. kids have already been shot and killed in so called drug/antiterror raids. all skools all already fema shelters for disasters, and since 9-15/01 thousands of fema provisions goin back to nixon have been inacted. search the trib or p-g archives for "code red", fema has plans to literally kidnap you. FEMA is the military, skools will be the local command center. Get out of skool and get as many kids as possible to quit. Between skool and tv your mind is already warped. This is the new Amerika, you have no rights. Check the archives at prisonplanet for lots of good stories on fema.

higher intel logistic centers- HILCs
by listner
The facilities that you are seeing being constructed around the Unitied States are HILCs or Higher Intelligence Logistic Centers. These facitlties have been in the planning since the late 1950's. They are going to be used to recieve and coordinate the intergration of higher intellegence beings from other galaxies in our solar system. It was a deal made long ago with leaders of the most powerful organizations in the world (Black Horizin 4 and UNTL-8. In trade for allowing the "invaders" into our country and duping the most powerful governments in the world to go along with it, the powerful men in these organizations were given very advance technology from the aliens that would make them billions of dollars. With this technology they set up business like Microsoft, Honeywell, every single defense contractors, etc. They have come up with cover stories like "Operstion Garden Plot" and "Cable Splice" to dupe people into thinking that these facilities are for people that will be incarcerated FEMA in the event of martial law. The NEW WORLD ORDOR, that many are accepting with open arms, is the real threat. This new government will be run by the aliens. Once the NWO comes to power the aliens will begin to arrive by the millions and they will be processed in these facilities that are not only in the United States-- they are being constructed everywhere. The Aliens will first be our friends. After a short time the aliens will crush us killing most of the population (the week, the elderly, the retarded,Etc.) the ones that they do not kill will be made slaves to the aliens. We are in the end days on planet earth as we know it. The time is here--- RESIST RESIST RESIST

you apparently did NOT read the article you refer to. this is for DRUG TESTING. and actually the courts have ruled that the schools have any and every right to do random drug searches on school premises. especially due to the fact that you are a minor. i am all about privacy and everyone having constitutional rights upheld. but are you telling me if an employer decides to call in the drug dogs to sniff around the office that's wrong too?
i think not. drugs are not allowed to be on school grounds, and if drug dogs are needed to ensure that no one takes them then so be it.. as i said before. DRUGS HAVE NO PLACE IN SCHOOLS.

this isn't really suprising, I heard on the news the other day one local school is requiring drug tests from anyone that is attending an after school program(this is in adition to a rule that was already there for anyone playing sports to do the same). but hey, you got to take certain procedures to fight off those menacing drugs, especialy that marihuana. if only more kids were straight edge like peppy =) it would figure robinson police were behind it, they're dicks, one of the came out to a car accident I was in a few weeks back, he seamed concerned little with the health of myself and the other guy involved, and the ticket that I recieved in the mail a week later that he didn't inform me I would be recieving was also very comforting after almost dying.
not good education

hey, since all of these responses are so negative, i wanted to give you some positive feedback.
The question, it seems to me, is not whether or not the school administration violated the LAW, but whether they are failing in their mission, purportedly to educate. It seems to me that they, in the least, have a bad attitude, and you would be better served by seeking education elsewhere... at a school a little less totalitarian or on your own, take the test for the GED if necessary.
I don't know about PA school funding, but in Ohio, it is tied directly to student enrollment. The schools get "paid" a set amount by the state per pupil per day. Students and parents can boycott the schools which hits administrators in the pocketbook.
Anyway, I agree with the earlier post that advises you to leave this school. Behavior on the part of school administrators, which is offensive to the Republic, is actually, in my opinion, a threat to your health, safety, and possibly LIFE. In response to a pepper spray release at my sister's high school, the administration put the school on lockdown, which obviously led to students becoming ill, and at least one student who had asthma had to be hospitalized. What if a fire had broken out?
It has nothing to do whatsoever with whether or not drugs "belong" in schools, as an earlier post suggested, but whether or not the school has any right to detain the entire student body for any reason. It's scary and dangerous. If my daughter came home from school and told me this story, she would not being going back to that school ever.
High school students have a lot more power than they know often times. Here are some things you can do if you stay at this school...
1. organize your friends and demand to speak on the issue at school board meetings.
2. take the opportunity to call school board members at their homes and offices on the telephone to complain about your principal.
3. if any student witnesses anything truly dangerous taking place, it might be a good idea to pull a fire alarm. that is what i would do, if for example, someone (LIKE A COP) releases pepper spray in the building. an alarm going off would alert people on the other side of the building to get out before they could breathe it in. You could save someone's life. familiarize yourself with where the fire alarm pulls are in the building.
4. organize a support group of parents that can be notified by cell phone to come to the school in support to confront the administration WHILE the incident is going on. you can also keep a contact list for the media and send out press releases if you have wireless devices.
5. one thing that i did a lot when i was in school was walk out. they can't keep a cop in front of every door and window. when I "couldnt take it anymore," I would simply walk out the front door and keep walking at a brisk pace for a few blocks down the sidewalk without looking back. No one ever stopped me. i encourage all young people to remind their school administration periodically that they attend school voluntarily. Organized walk-outs are very effective for undermining the sense of "order" that high school administrators crave. Personally, I have found that small daily personal acts of resistance can be just as unnerving. It reminds them that they are not in control, you are. (Why are these high school people such dictators?)

The Truth of what happened at montour *high*
by Me
Monday, Nov. 03, 2003 at 12:47 PM
meh meh meh
First of all, it wasn't the principal's call, it was the school administrations' decision.
2nd, there were police from several local police forces, using 5 or 6 teams of dogs.
3rd, what happened was that students were called to homeroom and basically sat there for 2 hours- you were still allowed to go to the bathroom, walk around, whatever
4th- people were not strip searched, the only people who were questioned were questioned because a dog reacted to their locker.
5th- As a student (senior), I fully supported this decision, it was a training excersize by various police departments who worked in coordination with school officials *THERE WAS NOTHING ILLLEGAL ABOUT THIS PROCESS*
6th- This is legal and has been done at other local districts and it may happen again, considering this is a suburban school, this kid is probably just shocked that it happened here, but here's some facts about that, in this school, a ton of drugs go floating around, being sold freely, such as:
Tobacco
Weed
Meth
Heroine
Crack
and others...
so uhh, yea, thats my rant
Welcome to the real world!

As a graduate of Montour High School and a working member of society, I feel really sorry for this 'kid'. He is freaked out because they did a random drug search??? Welcome to the real world numbnuts! I know a lot of people (here in the real world) that go thru random drug testing because their jobs require they be drug free for other people's safety. Imagine what your life would be like if your bus driver was on drugs when he/she picks you up in the morning or afternoon. Pot makes you paranoid, crack, heroin, meth (etc) just screws you up and can make you an addict. I have better things to do with my money and talents. Personally, I'm glad they do testing.
The last thing I want is to put my life in someone's hands that is high or drunk. I value my life too much to want to piss it away on stupid crap like drugs and alcohol. I'm not a prude, I tried alcohol after I graduated but all I did was piss my money away and wake up with a headache. My husband did drugs and alcohol growing up and he spent many, many months in jail because of it. He is grateful that he stopped before it KILLED HIM!!!!!! Maybe when this kid gets out from mommy and daddy's house and has to make it on his own, he'll understand that everything is done for a reason. Think about how you would feel if it were your child that was busted for drugs. Don't throw your life away because 'everyone else does it' or 'it makes me feel good' or some other dumbass reason.
I'm proud the administration does random drug searches. Maybe someday people will get it. Everyone is so SUE happy, it's sickening. The courts are inundated with petty lawsuits because someone feels they've been done wrong. PLEASE!!! Leave the courts for the really important things...murder, drug possession, theft, conspiracy, wrongful death etc.
GROW UP JUNIOR!!!!!
