PROJECT 1877 IS NO MORE !!!

Looks like a bad idea, coupled with poor execution, married with a complete lack of direction, has done in another leftist organization. The elitist and exclusionary Project 1877, with its "live by our ideals or to hell with you" mentality, is toast. Maybe the "leaders" of the Pittsburgh activist community will finally recognize that just because you build it and look for someone else to foot the bill does not mean they will come. Project 1877 had about as much chance of succeeding as Shelly WInters has of running with the bulls at Pamplona. What was the purpose? Was it a living room for the directionless to hang out and bitch about "The Man"? What the hell was it other than a bad idea in its prime.

Go to the party. Have some fun. And shut it down.

Is Project 1877 sellling the stuff? Too bad it is closing. I think it was a good idea. But there wasn't ever much going on there except people talking about how they could get something going on there. Is Indymedia going to move?

1877

My understanding is that Project 1877 was let out of its lease by the Bloomfield Garfield Corporation. Some people involved are discussing an idea for shared space with the Multi Tool/Roboto Project in WIlkinsburg. This is probably contingent upon the groups finding another building. I believe lots of stuff at 1877 was given back to the people who brought the materials in to begin with, or who have some expertise in using the equipment.
