Yuppie is as Yuppie does, another WYEP stone untruned

Just another case of exploitation, curruption, and extortion, on the shoulders of thousands of poor so a handful can live in luxury.
Well, those dead heads all used to wear the "die yuppie scum" t-shirts. Most of the punks of my generation gave up the ghost, and are looking to make the all important dollar, the Who didn't "die before they got old. "
But I never thought I'd see non-profits boasting a mission statement to serve the community being just not that for their own self creature comfort gain.
If you've been following my WYEP stories, and many of you have because search engine results have me littered on a first page search for "WYEP"
For those of you late in the game the original article is the most comprehensive.

Well....
Apparantly is not hurting for money, and that's not the reason for the attrocious music, ignorant comentary and staff turn over.
The reason WYEP has sold out, why Rosemary plays "Just a Gigolo" so much, and why it sounds like a bad late seventies K-Tel album may be their plans to build a 3.5 million dollar studio.
Yes, we got a stadium we voted against, a convention center on the brink of bankruptcy, and now our public radio station get it's own exorbitant spending spree.
Not an antenna, or transmitter that serves the listeners better, but a studio, that's for the staff. They'll probably never own 3.5 million dollar houses no matter how bad they whore out the station, but by golly they can work in one. Some actually admit to not having much of a life outside og WYEP so I'm sure that will be just the thing to funnel money into to fulfil their rock and roll fantasy. They obviously don't care about music anymore.
So, Americas' best, brightest, most imaginative artists, get to live in squalor a bit longer, or not have a career at all, so what's left of the staff after the past year and a half's exodus gets to park their fat asses in a alleged 3.5 million dollar studio.
Good work guys. You picked a good town to do it. No one will stand up to you and restore you to an ethical organisation. That stadium still got built didn't it?
I'm sure saying if your children paid a hundred thousand dollars for their education just to find that they couldn't get a job in their field because they didn't have the money to bribe their way in to the company, you'd be pissed too?
Na...
I bet it doesn't make a dent.
But that's the state of the music system they embue.
Well, Saturday Light Brigade Bailed, and Joe Resch are gone, there's not many left at the Best Little Radio Station in Pittsburgh.
(Did anybody catch that? Pittsburghers seem a bit slow to this Chicagoan)
It's getting more narrow the culprits, but it appears to be the board, and it's current present ruling staff lackeys.

You're doing a great job at doing nothing Pittsburgh.

In my opinion WYEP has sucked ever since I moved here in 1997. I don't listen to any pittsburgh radio stations anymore. I bought an xmradio sat. radio and have lived in 100 station bliss ever since. As far as non-profits go, there are a lot of bad ones, so WYEP is not unique in that respect. good examples are certain consumer credit counseling agencies and the huge salaries given to public university presidents or football coaches. Just because an entity operates as a non-profit doesn't really mean very much.
It's true about non-profits

It's true many non-profits are foul, but not all use propaganda over publicly owned airwaves to dishonestly promote themselves to make money that serves themselves.
The college sports teams don't monopolize sports either as WYEP and the arts of Pittsburgh do with crap.
I'm sure a lot of people were glad to find out about the United Way's million dollar a year president years ago, I'm just pointing out that another Emperor is naked.
You appeared to grasp that fact. Many other Pittsburghers don't have the time or insight to know when something is crap.
It took me six months of going "why hasn't there been one good new song on for the last six months" before my investigation, and I wish someone like me, was there to fill me in.

not everyone can afford satelite radio just yet.
I bought a mp3 player a year ago and have 2 weeks of 24/7 non repeat music.
But if good music isn't supported at a popular level, those artists can't afford to tour, thus if music is your thing, you may have nothing to do but listen online, or drive really far to go see concerts.
I drove to New York last month to see a band.
If aritsts aren't supported, they can't afford to make more CD's thus we're stuck with nohting but oldies and woman done me wrong songs.
