Tuesday, December 2, 2003 -- About 200 people braved freezing weather to protest Bush at the Westin Convention Center Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. One activist was arrested after he crossed a police barricade.

Today was the second time Pittsburghers turned out to unwelcome Bush downtown in four months.

several activists tried to block the van from leaving while explaining to the media that the person was wrongfully arrested.

Hey You Guys can not count
by I was there too Tuesday, Dec. 02, 2003 at 11:13 AM

That is A HELL OF A LOT LESS THAN 200. You might have had enough people to get couple teams together for flag football that is about it.

Capitalist Media can't count either
by WTAE Tuesday, Dec. 02, 2003 at 11:26 AM

About 350 protesters -- civil libertarians, labor groups, environmentalists and some local government leaders -- stood outside the Westin with signs and competed to be heard. A group of about 25 Duquesne University students who supported Bush were jostled by the others.

"much bigger numbers"

A Tuesday morning protest is not going to get huge numbers...but 250 people is actually quite big for Pittsburgh.

SUre was not a lot -- NOT 250 For Sure
by Linc L. Boltin Tuesday, Dec. 02, 2003 at 12:46 PM

I was there. I didn't even see anyone. I actual walked into the DoubleTree and walked around. I even went up to the Bush reception. They seem to have thought I might have been with the media or something. But no one stopped me until I got to the security desk where they were checking IDs and registration for the party. I walked out. I left the DoubleTree and saw the Secret Service. I walked past the seafood place. AND I DID NOT SEE 250 PROTESTERS. I saw some USW of A protesters, but that was it.

Since I was (1) disappointed, and (2) spending my lunch time to come out for the Indymedia casue, and (3) still hungry, I went and got lunch.

I could not have missed 250 people. I just watched it on the news and it sure does not look like 250. Quit lying to yourself and everyone else. You couldn't get 250 on the sidewalk in front of the deli.

look at the pictures. They are convincing that there were more then 200 people there. The corporate news quoted from 200-350 people and they aren't exactly known for there generosity.

There were several hundred
by John Lacny Friday, Dec. 05, 2003 at 6:31 AM

I am bad with crowd numbers, and when I do estimate, I often undercount. There were definitely several hundred people at the demonstration at its peak, however. The arrest must have happened when I was long gone, and the numbers at the demonstration had dwindled.

Which reminds me. I have said this on another thread, but could people please NOT discuss the circumstances of the arrest? Since I was gone by that time, I for one am curious about it, but I don't see how it helps the person who got busted to discuss it. Posting photos of the arrest is not a good idea, either. That stuff can be used as evidence in court, and it could hurt the person in ways you would not be able to anticipate. I know that Indymedia is all about showing how things really happened and all, but show some restraint, responsibility, and consideration for the predicament that your comrades who have run afoul of the law find themselves in.

numbers

TWO PEOPLE protesting on a Tuesday morning is a lot! This isn't a numbers game! This is about social justice or the future or whatever that gets you up in the morning. It is well known that these fundraising events are not widely publicized so that Bush can avoid better organised protests. The last time Bush came to Little Rock, by the time I found out about it, he was GONE already. I didn't have time to get downtown myself, let alone organize a bunch of people to go with me. And the Bush team wouldn't get the message if I had 5000 people with me. If you believe that, then you believe that he wouldn't have gone into Iraq IF ONLY we had ANOTHER quarter million people marching in the streets. Yeah, right. They just don't f*kcing care. So Get out there and have fun! Stop getting down on each other! It bums everybody out.
