WHAT
The Department of Defense’s Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHISC), formerly known as the School of the Americas (SOA), teaches soldiers from Latin America torture, psychological warfare and other terroristic techniques. Graduates of the SOA/WHISC program have gone on to commit some of the worse human rights abuses known, including the massacre of 900 villagers in the small village of El Mozote. And 4th District Republican Representative Melissa Hart heartily supports it.
SOA/WHISC graduates work to violently silence the critics of major trade and economic ‘agreements’ who include unionists, clergy, activists, students and many, many others. Yet Melissa Hart is speaking to the World Affairs Council about these same trade ‘agreements’.
Even though the relationship between human rights abuses by SOA/WHISC grads and these trade ‘agreements’ has long been documented by School of the Americas Watch, Melissa Hart still refuses to co-sign House Resolution 1258, legislation calling for final closure of the School of the Americas. Why does Ms. Hart continue to support terrorism?
WHO
The WPA-SOAW-a group made up of students, labor, and religious activists from Western PA- will gather with other local activists for a non-violent picket, calling on Melissa Hart to co-sign H.R. 1258, and rid the world of another terrorist training camp.
WHEN
Thursday, February 19th, 2004 from 4:30 pm to 6 pm.
WHERE
We will gather at 301 Grant St, outside The Rivers Club, at One Oxford Center, Downtown Pittsburgh (between 3rd and 4th Ave).
THIS IS NOT A PERMITTED EVENT!

Can you clarify what you mean by it's not a permitted event. That's usually used to denote that a direct action is taking place that lacks a permit it must legally have. There is no permit required to gather on the sidewalk, etc so does this event need a permit and is not getting one because it's nature is direct action- civil disobedience or is it because it doens't need one.

The protest will be on the sidewalks, and there is no planned direct action as we are trying to convince Melissa Hart to sign on; therefore we would like to be as 'orderly' as possible...however chants, buckets brigades, signs and banners etc. are encouraged.
Sorry about the confusion.
