1800 marines to invade Mo'town in May! Help us resist the occupation!
In May, about 1800 troops from the 24th Marine expeditionary unit will be invading Morgantown in a series of drills to practice enforcing their particular brand of terror on the rest of the world. They will be coming in helicopters and will be fully geared up for battle, with some troops even using live rounds for sniper practice. Morgantown is an easy target because its poor economy makes it hard to turn down the income this will bring and the transient student population which will leave much of the Sunnyside neughborhood vacant for the summer wargames. While the military states that all residents affected will be warned well ahead of time, they refuse to state an exact date that they are coming, as they want it to be a surprise for their troops.
"People in Morgantown will have an opportunity to see something that a lot of other communities would like to have.'' Says Morgantown mayor Ron Justice, adding that the Special Op's Unit has assured him that daily life in Morgantown will not be disrupted. What?!? How can daily life not be disrupted with snipers on rooftops and Marines dropping from helicopters? Local residents are not so easily cowed. "Call your city council members and tell them you do not want Morgantown invaded," urges one community member. While another, though stating his firm opposition to the coming invasion, adds that "part of me wishes they would train in every American city, so that we might all understand a small amount of what families in Iraq have to live with every day."
Pittsburghers, we've been coming up to your anti-war marches, PAPV rallies, and May day get togethers for years. Now's your chance to come visit Morgantown and experience the occupation!

Just read the article about the planned "invasion" of the small town near Pittsburgh. What a great excuse to have an alternative invasion! Get down there everybody! Camp out, whatever. Dress up as Iraqis.
How dare they! They would never get away with this in England. Bloody cheek of them!
Disrupt their war games.
We shall be following the progress of events. Will try to get it on the main news in England.
Well..

Well...West Virginia is pretty much a third-world country as much as Iraq. The Marines have to watch out for the inbred hoopies, though. And the woment there cover their faces for an entirely DIFFERENT reason....
They will leave

We ran them out of Brighton Heights about ten years ago. They were practicing tactics that will be used against the US population, but people just didn't like the helicopters and flashbangs. It only took a day or two of complaining and they went away.
It may also be a fantastic opportunity to agitate and create dissension in their ranks. After all, it was the anti-war movement IN Vietnam that ended the war, not the liberal white kids here.

Well, I'm against the Iraq Invasion, and against the US Imperialist policies in general, but I'm not against simply 'having' a strong military. The military needs to 'train' and I cant say it really bothers me that they would train in Morgantown or anywhere else in the U.S.
Moreover, I think radicals, dissidents, and iconoclasts need to think long and hard about organizing protests against the military training in the U.S. I am afraid vocal dissenters might end up alienating some swing voters and we might end up with 4 more years of Bush.

I have a problem with a military that trains in an urban setting. This implies urban warfare. I think the military are training to fight the ordinary citizens of the U.S.
Interesting fact: Buddhism is the only religion that has not been involved in any war throughout history.

You're wrong j. The Buddhist of Tibet put forth a noble fight in the war against the Chinese invaders. The only religion that currently preaches the "virtues" of war is islam. The Jihadist teachings of the Imans and clerics of the Islamists also elevates murder of non-muslim civilians (and even certain classes of Muslim civilian) to that of religious sacrament.

You can't draw the line between imperialism and a strong military. The marines, an INVASION FORCE, have never been about defense. The only reason to have them is to implement US Imperialism and pave the way for corporate globalism. As for the argument that a strong military is necessary in today's world simply for protection, I would argue that the US wouldn't need so much protection if it wasn't for it's imperialist policies.
As someone who grew up with a Quaker/pacifist background, I would have a hard time arguing that the military even needs to exist, much less train, but assuming that they do, I can't think of one logical reason as to why they would need to do it in any city, other than to practice for when they're going to install martial law on the entire country. I am opposed to the marines coming to Morgantown not just because I don't want them where I live, but because I don't want them where anyone lives. They are not coming here to train to protect me, they're training to kill people for big business. they're training to terrorize brown people. they're training to make the world a more violent place, not a safer place. And I don't blame the boys at the bottom carrying the guns, they have been brainwashed. If they want to go back after they've blown children to pieces, then they have my spite.
Mark, do you believe that we live in a democracy? Do you believe that the choice we are presented with is a choice at all? If half of this country already opposes this war and we're still afraid to speak out lest we hurt the rigged elections, it doesn't sound like a democracy to me. My vote doesn't count and neither does yours, we don't get to vote for the people who really run this country. the only thing that I've got left is my voice, and it may not count to them either, but there is no way that I could live with myself if I kept quiet. Maybe if enough of us started yelling, they just might have to hear us in their ivory tower.

Our sons and daughters fighting for this country should be welcome by all; whenever. If training these young men and women shall make then better prepared to encounter terrorism, so be it. Especially if it makes atleast one of them come back home, training in Morgantown, is allowed in my book.
They will all come back home

I feel only sympathy for those young people who have been duped by our government into hiring on as killers. It is unfortunate that they are being told they are going to fight terrorism when they are going to be the ones inflicting terror in the hearts and minds of innocent Iraqi's. Peace and security can never be bought by violence. If they want to make the world a safer, freer place these kids should be dismantling Halliburton, Bechtel, and RJ Reynolds, not invading Basrah, Fallujah, and Baghdad.
No, if they want a better world

They should immediately come home and BEAT YOU SENSIBLE !!!! "Hired Killers"? "Inflicting Terror"? You are one incredibly stupid dupe. The world is a crazy and dangerous place because of such things as radical Islam and the terror facilitators throughout the world such as you and the other "Anti-War" crowd.
What about Christian Fundamentalists?
by Aren't they just as dangerous?

Or is terrorism only bad if it's inflicted by people of color? I can't speak for the entire anti-war community, but I am against ALL violence. That includes bombing abortion clinics, flying planes into buildings, carpet bombing Iraqi cities, and police brutality. The Iraq war is not about fighting terrorism or making the US any safer. If it is doing anything it is widening the gap between cultures and making the case for jihaad much stronger. As a british officer said last week after the widespread abuse of Iraqi prisoners was made public, "The terrorists could not have found a better tactic for recruitment."
Violence never buys peace.
Stop supporting US funded terror.

This is the the most ridiculous site I have ever seen. You radicals go spend a day in Irag pre and post Saddam and then compare it to drills in America. Get a foxin' clue. Thank God you guys only live in California. That is where stupidity is inbred.
