Should Journalists be Certified?
King James II
2007-08-21 12:49 AM
Reasonable people here in the U.S. appreciate, and also assume, that our culture’s news industry of executives, editors and journalists be held to high standards of professional conduct. A democratic republic needs, as well as expects, truth in reporting, and adequate, if not comprehensive, coverage on “all” important issues. To refocus the question of media fraud to one of whether journalists ought to be certified, or accredited by some kind of professional board, in order to be recognized as “professional” journalists, is, to say the least, shortsighted. Ramsey Clark: Join me in DC on Sept. 15
ImpeachBush.org
2007-08-10 6:14 PM
Below is an important message from former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark about the upcoming September 15 mass march and rally in Washington DC. ImpeachBush.org, the organization Ramsey Clark founded, and hundreds of other impeachment organizations are mobilizing with the anti-war movement for the September 15 Mass March. September 15 is when General David Petraeus makes his report to Congress about the Iraq war. Congress is expected to debate and vote on the question of Iraq war funding in mid-September. The latest this decision can come is Friday, September 28 - the last business day in the 2007 fiscal year. The impeachment movement is bringing thousands of people to join with the anti-war movement on September 15 to insist that Congress uphold its Constitutional mandate and introduce articles of impeachment against George W. Bush and Dick Cheney for High Crimes and Misdemeanors. Be in Washington DC on September 15 to make your voice heard! (text/plain)

Robert Fisk is one of the greatest reporters of all time. I have nothing but sincere gratitude to him for putting his life on the line to give us these excellent stories. But, having said this, I think he is doing a disservice to his readers by claiming his contempt for the Internet and also by his refusal to look critically into the events of 9/11. (text/plain)

The voice of new queer American diy rock n' roll, these gals have been stomping the East Coast with queered raw primitive rock & roll since 2005 and head out on tour in July and August through the south, midwest and northeast in support of their self-produced live record Dirty Laundry and Skeletons: Live Recordings 2005-07.

I was reading a news article on former Palestinian Information minister Dr Mustafa Barghouthi on An Najah University's (Nablus, Palestine) website when I stumbled upon this article on a Palestinian solution to the impasse between Fatah & Hamas below. It calls for reform of the PLO, dissolvement of the emergency gov, Hamas gov, & to end the current factionalism running rampant in territories by allowing all factions to join a new reformed government composed of other political parties: PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY (text/plain + 1 comment)

Private Security Companies & Fascism
Marcus Tullius
2007-07-17 2:08 AM
Several issues about private mercenaries have come to the forefront. However one important issue has “not” come to our attention. The issue that needs investigation is the “fact” that any private security employee could be taking secret orders (such as those of a subversive nature) from any special interest, political front or political power—including the taking of orders from other intelligence agencies or even mafia-like gangsters. BASTILLE DAY in Harrisburg with Ramona Africa: Paroling the MOVE 9 in 2008
BE47
2007-07-16 11:25 AM
Ramona Africa spoke in Harrisburg on July 14, "Bastille Day." She gave a wonderful history of the MOVE organization and gave a clear description of why the eight surviving MOVE 9 prisoners must be released from Pennsylvania's prison system in 2008. And why they need to be granted a new, fair trial. They have all been in jail for 300 years for one bullet, the sentencing judge admits he has no idea who who fired it. Yet they are all serving his 30-100 years sentence. Many are certain the bullet was actually fired by police, a horrible instance of "friendly fire." This "bastille Day" talk by Ramona is one of the best talks I have ever heard her give [and she sets a pretty high standard!]. Full extended versions of this talk should be available soon on CD. But for now, if you missed her talk, stream this! Peace
if you can help finance the MOVE 9 legal defense, please make checks out to "MOVE." the address is:
