Contemporary American Radical Political Poster Art
Chuck Munson
2006-04-11 2:23 PM
Radical political posters have long been a feature of American culture and politics. From handbills posted during the Revolutionary War to wheatpasted posters put up by anti-capitalist activists, radical street art has been vital to political discourse in this country. Radical art in public spaces has made a comeback in the past 15 years. (text/plain)

Allegheny County is on track to make a terrible mistake. The county is currently negotiating a contract for some 2,800 used electronic voting systems. The systems are being purchased in order to comply with the 2002 Help America Vote act. This act requires that all states upgrade their elections systems to modern, secure, auditable and accessible equipment. The equipment that the county is seeking to purchase does not meet these standards.

Women’s Rights Under Assault, Abortion Outlawed In South Dakota
STEVEN ARGUE
2006-03-25 3:56 PM
The right to abortion was won in the United States in 1973 through a mass struggle in the streets that culminated in the Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion. A radicalized movement for women’s rights, born out of the movement against the Vietnam War and other struggles for social justice at home, was sickened by the injustice of women being butchered in illegal back alley abortions and saw the right of women to control their own bodies as fundamental in the struggle for women’s equality. Global Nonviolent Resistance Marks Third Anniversary
Danny Målec
2006-03-21 12:44 PM
Marking the third anniversary of the U.S. occupation of Iraq, thousands of activists from all parts of the globe engaged in nonviolent demonstrations and direct action focusing on disrupting business as usual at some of the symbolic “Pillars of the War in Iraq” – US government installations, military bases, congressional offices, recruitment centers and war profiteers. Actions took place in cities around the world, including Atlanta, Belfast, Boston, Buenos Aires, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Madrid, Managua, New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Rome, San Francisco, San Salvador and Washington, DC. These actions demonstrate increasing boldness to challenge the mechanisms of the war in Iraq through coordinated, global nonviolent resistance. (text/plain)
