S.Odamninsane Day of Healing and Reflection – Reloaded : One Year Later
by S.Odamninsane
Wednesday, Mar. 24, 2004 at 3:39 PM
It has been one year since the all important first annual S.Odamninsane Day of Healing and Reflection. http://pittsburgh.indymedia.org/news/2003/04/4668.php Have We Healed. Have We Grown. Let's Do It Again
Oh these protests. This violence from the peace activists. Peace Activists supporting the military invasion of Iraq as a means to Peace. Anti-War activists supporting the Iraqi resistance in its war on American troops. And IndyMedia that continues to wain in effectiveness, popularity, traffic and continues to fight its own internal repressive elements. A sit in at a campus building on the only day of the week when no one goes there. A protest in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. International ANSWER stir the pot of discontent, promoting assaults against American soldiers, and fostering poor fashion choices among America’s youth. Oh the humanity.
Is everyone really a Palestinian without any regard for the actions of Hamas and other organizations that support war and murder when the Covenant of the Hamas, the group's founding document, makes clear that Hamas has no intention of ever stopping the "cycle of violence." Its preamble states: "Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it." Article 7 asserts: "The Day of Judgment will not come about until Moslems fight Jews and kill them. Then, the Jews will hide behind rocks and trees, and the rocks and trees will cry out: 'O Moslem, there is a Jew hiding behind me, come and kill him.' " And Article 13 says: "So-called peaceful solutions and international conferences are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance Movement. . . . There is no solution for the Palestinian problem except by Jihad." THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO PEACE. THIS IS NOT THE WAY OF S.Odamninsane. HEAL. REFLECT.
Once Again, Pittsburgh must heal and reflect. For this reason, Friday April 2, 2004 has been declared S.Odamninsane Day of Healing and Reflection – Reloaded : One Year In The War Against Bad Fashion, Ill Manners, and White People Sporting Dreadlocks. Please join me and others in Dahntahn Picksburgh to rally for these noble efforts. We will have time to reflect upon our presentation of our ideas in a civilized society and respect for cultures different from our own. We can reflect on the cost of our civil liberties. We will reflect on the societal assault on the rights and freedoms of other cultures and our personal obligations to confront tyranny wherever it may raise its ugly greasy haired, ill-coifed noggin. We will consider why it is that shooting a young Palestinian laden with an explosive bomb belt before he may make it to his intended target is not considered assisted suicide.
We will also have the opportunity to heal the wounds that the selfish American persona that feds the so called Anti-War movement has caused in our society. We will consider why a 1.9 cent increase in the price of gasoline in America is considered a far more important issue than the liberation of the women and children from Baathist tyranny. We will consider how The group that sponsors the “anti-war” protests in America, International A.S.W.E.R., is evil, not just clueless, and as a front for the Stalinist Workers World Party, is engaging in outright sedition. We will consider this quote from an Answer pamphlet: "The anti-war movement here and around the world must give its unconditional support to the Iraqi anti-colonial resistance"-- that mean the guerrillas and terrorists who've been blowing up American servicemen, Iraqi civilians and international do-gooders. Yet International Answer uses this murder of our troops, actions which it supports, to politicize the debate and support for an immediate withdraw of American troops, to leave the Iraqi people to suffer further at the hands of despotic Muslim factions.
Join me in this day of peace. In this day of reflection. In this day of good manners, pleasant discuss, and tasty chocolate desserts, wine and lovely roses. Join me for the multiple sit ins which will be organized until the demands of S.Odamninsane are realized. After the rally on Grant Street we will all progress to sit in locations at Mellon Park, The Concourse at USX Tower, Point State Park, Stonehedge-On-The-Mon (better known as that pleasant little space with the rocks that spout water next to Melon (oh excuse me) Citizens Bank Tower), Oxford Center (or Centre), and various establishments of libation and social intercourse throughout the Land of Smurphy, our little ‘Burgh. THIS IS A CALL TO ACTION.
OH Yeah ---- LET’S GO PITT !!!!! Thank you for your support.

Great Idea !!! I remember that the first S.Odamninsane Day of Healing and Reflection was an overwhelming success. A truly welcome balance to the ineffective rage fests that are so commonly deemed “protests” and “actions” by “the Movement.” Three cheers and a mocha latte for S.Odamninsane !!!
I have a few more items for our collective consideration on the “S.Odamninsane Day of Healing and Reflection – Reloaded : One Year In The War Against Bad Fashion, Ill Manners, and White People Sporting Dreadlocks”:
-- Why is it that the world yet does not have the answer to act against state-terrorists without an all-out war to pre-empt them?
-- Is the Free World still paralyzed to use weapons in flexible response against a lethal threat of murders coming from outside countries at the right time with as little casualties as possible?
It may be time that the world requires a new international law which may learn from the old “Right of Self Defense”. It can be simple: After terrorists act against civilians, the state has the right to react and defend its citizens by killing terrorists wherever they may hide, but only after the government of the state where the terrorists reside does not surrender them to the country where the citizens have been killed. A propaganda and support for suicide-bombing must be forbidden as well.
To begin this discussion, in anticipation of another peaceful and wondrous S.Odamninsane Day in Pittsburgh, I would like to suggest the following for consideration of what has to be done in Israel and Palestine now?
• Promote Education for Tolerance among Palestinian and Israeli children. Stop “Education for Hate” propaganda in children’s text-books and materials. Stop the "pulpit of hate" that is fostered and supported by the Palestinian Authority in the mosques of Palestine, and which foments throughout the religious venues of the middle east.
• Stop Hamas and Palestinian radicals from killing more innocent people in Israel. Recognize that Hamas and similar organizations are committed only to war and murder. (e.g. See quotes from Hamas charter above.)
• Support the international "Road Map for Peace in the Middle East.”
• Tear down the Israeli-built wall AFTER the terror has declined to pre-Intifada level and the "Road Map" implemented.
• Ignore Yasser Arafat as the hidden mentor of terror. Acknowledge that the Palestinian leadership has little regard for the lives of the children of Palestine, and less regard for the lives of the Israelis. Peace can only be had when the Palestinian leaders truly adopt a personal commitment to peace, freedom and human rights.
• Stop the daily humiliation of Palestinians in their territories and create the conditions for Palestinian self-governance when it is clear that the Palestinian leadership has committed to eradicating terrorist support.
• Accept that after over 50 years 2-3 Million Palestinian refugees can not return to Israel any more. Fund their new future in the Arab World by other Arab Nations, the EU and the US. Work for Arab commitment to a plan of peace in the region and a commitment to assist the dislocated Palestinians now in other Arab nations.
• Stop the broad support of terror, both financial and spiritual, throughout the Arab world. Start a true "Reconciliation Process" by building hospitals and schools in Palestine with funds from Palestine, Israel and other Arab Nations. Arab nations must commit to funding Palestinian “reconstruction” and stop funding Palestinian and Israeli “destruction”.
Love it!

I'd love to attend, but you didn't specify a time or meeting place. Thats too bad, as I'm sure thousands of people would like to take part. A time and specific location would help interested parties come together and reflect. Maybe it was just an oversight on your part, or maybe you're afraid that you'll look like a fool if you make a time and location known and no one shows up but you and those North Allegheny high schooler's for Bush/Cheney '04.
Please let us all know when and where to show up so we can all come together, heal and reflect.

Well “none” you need not feel like “nothing”. Your support and your interest are most welcome. I am certain that this will be a most successful event. Thousands of people are expected to turn out (as they did last year). “S.Odamninsane Day of Healing and Reflection – Reloaded : One Year In The War Against Bad Fashion, Ill Manners, and White People Sporting Dreadlocks” is an all day event, but the marches and the sit ins will commence at 4:30 on Grant Street. Events will progress to the designated sit in areas (weather permitting) with discussion groups at Dingbats. Nick & Tony’s, Boun Giorno Café, Atria’s, Sammy’s, and other generous sponsors of fine social intercourse (weather be damned).
I do hope to see you there. I anticipate that we will commence “Peace Chains” that will begin at each end of Grant Street and progress to the other end of Grant Street. We will start at the City-County Building at one end, and the Federal Building at the other.
And you need no worry if you want to attend, for no one will look a fool. And even if you do, we promise not to make fun of you. We welcome the North Allegheny High School Bush/Cheney ’04 Club and are most impressed that North Allegheny has such a progressive organization for an institution that services students who are not even old enough to vote but are intelligent enough to possess such vision and foresight for the future of their country and world. We would equally welcome similar organizations, regardless of political orientation. But please remember that this is “S.Odamninsane Day of Healing and Reflection – Reloaded : One Year In The War Against Bad Fashion, Ill Manners, and White People Sporting Dreadlocks”. All we ask is that you make wise fashion choices, respect your head, and remember to say please and thank you.
Grant Street?

Grant street is a hell of a long meeting place. And something tells me no one showed up last year as there were no posts from others who attended, no pictures, and no media coverage. Obviously you aren't really planning an event of any kind, simply one that anyone and no one can participate in at the same time and thus you can claim massive participation without producing reputable documentation.
It really humors me that people such as yourself find yourself so clever to call such events yet produce no documentation of them happening. In case you missed it, the protests in Oakland last weekend really did happen, and they had real people at them. How about yours? Why would an event of such magnitude happen without any media coverage? Thousands attend, yet no one reports on or talks about it. Makes you wonder.

Hey 'none' it sounds like you missed last year's 'S.Odaminsane Day of healing and reflection'. If you weren't around you really missed out. The S.Odamninsane Day got started as a true grassrots protest of heavyhanded editorial practices at IMC and the atmosphere of exclusion at IMC. S.Odamninsane's efforts really brought about change and help create the more sensiible editorial practices that have developed at IMC over the past year. S.O. was a true visionary. A hero for justice in every sense. S.O.'s protest organized around S.O. Day were, without question, the most effective protest demonstrations ever organized on the IndyMedia site.
Last years S.O. Day was a great success enjoyed by thousands, no less real than the M20 party in Oakland. Unfortuantely, the 'S.Odamninsane Bobblehead Noght at PNC Park' was less of a success. Below are some links for you 'none', since you must have missed the coverage of last year's S.O. Day.

Nah, no proof that anyone attended, or that the event ever happened in those links. Just more witty drivel. Amazing how those crazy leftists can take pictures of their actions, can get media coverage of them from both the mainstream and alternative press, yet your gathering of thousands can't even get a snapshot off.
If you repeat it enough, maybe someone will believe it happened. You know, like the Saddam-WTC link. Rinse, repeat.

There you go again with the negative waves. "None" don't be such a cynic. Just because S.O. does not promote the free-for-all loud disassociated rabble rousing that you prefer in your actions, you should not discount S.O.'s effectiveness. Look inward if you want to effect outward change. "None" you could use a little healing and reflection.
1.9 cent increase
by etienne
Friday, Mar. 26, 2004 at 5:10 AM
Good questions Mr. S. Regarding your point about a 1.9 cent increase in the price of gasoline -- i would ask why those of us who are fighting U.S. imperialism still drive cars at all. i smile each time i see the price of gasoline go up but it has not gone up near enough yet. i would like to see $3 a gallon. Add to that a tax that will buy universal auto insurance for all who still decide that they need to drive a car and also a tax to help fund excellent public mass transit to get people out of their cars.
The price of gasoline won't go that high however because liberating Iraq has also liberated all that oil for us (U.S.) Fact is that most in this country don't give a flying fuck about anybody in Iraq, just so long as the place is quiet, privatized and productive. No,we just want cheap oil for our private auto. (Our way of life! Our freedoms!) So you are right. The anti-war or peace crowd is "selfish" to the degree that we continue to lap up the ill gotten spoils of U.S. imperialism and we all do. Mea culpa
As to your issue with A.N.S.W.E.R. i don't think that the events on this past March 20 had anything to do with A.N.S.W.E.R., even though as true blue Stalinists, they might claim the credit. Are they? i don't know.
Last point: SEDITION? Yes, i am all for it! You mean you aren't?

Buggy Whips

Great Idea, ET. Why didn't someone think of it sooner !! Fight US Imperialism. Burn your car. Everyone should ride a horse. The manure in the streets coould be used as fertilizer. The government would have to hire people to clean the manure out of the streets and spread it in the parks and gardens. Shoe Shine guys would make a brisk business cleaning cleaning crap off of everyone's shoes. There would be a resurgence in the need for buggy whips and we could build new buggy whip factories to employ all of hte people to make saddles and buggy whips. It will then take three days to travel from Pittsburgh to Cleveland, but this will be great for all of the inns along the route. We will all need to learn how to work on the ranch and take care of our horses. Farmers will sell more oats. We will move society back a couple hundred years overnight. Just like the Taliban did.

To build on Yassar D.'s submission to the S.O. Day Of Healing and Reflection, I proposed that we also declare this day "Hug-a-Jew Day". This would further the entire movement of Hug-A-Jew as just a small contribution to this dialogue, an affirmation of our common humanity. Because as Muslims, we stand for justice.
We are fundamentally against guilt by association.
Jews are not our enemy.
What's more, as people who are being attacked across the globe, Muslims should be especially mindful not to fall in the trap of ignorance and bigotry.
As Tariq Ramadan, Muslim scholar and grandson of Muslim Brotherhood founder Hasan El Banna,
states,
"There is nothing in Islam that gives legitimization to Judeophobia, xenophobia and the rejection of any human being because of his religion or the group to which he belongs. Anti-Semitism has no justification in Islam, the message of which demands respect for the Jewish religion and spirit, which are considered a noble expression of the People of the Book."
In these times of singling out, labeling, and stigmatizing Muslims, Arabs, and South Asians living in the West, there is also much to learn from the Jewish experience in Europe and North America: the countless stories of tragic pain, oppression, resistance, and renewal.
As Israel continues its violent campaign against the most basic Palestinian rights, there is an opportunity to stand hand-in-hand in struggle with the many Jews of conscience and say "No more!" No more military occupation! No more home demolitions! No more use of life to destroy life! No more killings of innocent people anywhere! No more trampling on civil and human rights anywhere! No more using our children as expendable weapons of hatred! No more protection of terrorists anywhere!
Thank you all

Marwan, Yassar, S.O., others, while your call for peaceful and civil resolution to the troubles in Palestine are truly the only way to the development of a lasting peace, you MUST first recognize the intolerable hatred that the radical Islamist have created in their own culture. This hatred is in absolutely no way connected to actions of the western world, but is entirely an internal cultural creation of the Islamists. This hatred is pure and fundamental. In fact, this base hatred prohibits any negotiated resolution with the Islamist, who have sworn to promote the death of all non-Islamists (not just westerners). Until you can eradicate this hatred, until the Islamic world speaks out in unequivocal terms against these elements in its own culture, until the Islamist and Arab cultures begin to respect life, you will never see peace. If America and western Judeo-Christian cultures were immediately gone from the earth, this hatred and violence would still exist.
Yesterday there was an attack in Fallujah Iraq against American civilians. This attack was brutal. It was evil (yes, I used that evil term, evil). It was non-political. It was pure in its hatred. It was also pure in its joy … the shear joy that it brought to the participants in the attack and the by-standers who celebrated the brutal murder and desecration of four men. There was celebration in the air, joy in their faces, as they assaulted these western men. There was celebration as the burning and charred bodies were dragged through the streets by men and boys. There was praise for the blessing that their “god” had granted them with the barbaric torture of these murder victims. There was passion and elation as the charred carcasses were hung from a bridge for all to see.
I am providing the pictures of this so that maybe you can understand the absolute brutality that the Islamist culture embraces. Look at the faces of the celebrants, even if you must look away from the bodies and the violence that was brought, without cause, upon these men whose only sin was to be unlike the Islamists. Now, try a little of that famous leftist empathy …. Think for yourself how you would have to alter your own moral fiber to permit you to participate in such a celebration as these children are in these photos. Think what it would take for you to parade around the trophy of a burning man’s identification documents as if it were the highly coveted Honus Wagner baseball card.
This is not an isolated incident. This is a fundamental belief system. In the past weeks and months we have seen violence increase in Israel. We have also seen the practice of “hiring” unsuspecting children to do the dirty work of Hamas and Al Aqsa. How can you expect to negotiate with a culture that has no respect for the life of it’s own people, it’s own children, to place so little a price on the sanctity of life.
Only, (Let me repeat this so no one think I am being to stiff in my analysis .. ONLY) when there is a huge outcry in the Arab world against these practices, against this culture, will you find peace. Until then, the world is right to gird itself in defense of a culture of hate and murder which will destroy all unlike itself.
Maybe Marwan, Jonas and others that are so fond of speaking for Palestinian freedom as if it were someone else’s responsibility or ability to grant, would take the lead and organize several marches and rallies denouncing the senseless Palestinian murder of Palestinian children, the Arab Islamist embrace of violence, the mullahs and clerics who preach hatred, the celebration of brutality against women, children and non-Islamics, the use of children as cannon fodder, the philosophy of racism in the Islamist world, and all of those other things that the Islamist apologists are so delicate to avoid.

Looks like IMC censored your pictures for some reason. The pictures would be integral to the message of your post and would be newsworthy, so I don't know why they woudl do that. But is is to be expected if you are at all critical of Muslim Terrorist Murders like those in Fallujah.
So maybe this was one of the one you were posting. I see that everyone in this picture looks like it is PAARRTTTYYY TTIMME IN DOWNTOWN FALLUJAH (everyone except for the poor guys that got cooked by these ignorant murderous bastards and are now hanging from the ironwork). Is this really what Allah (pfft) would want?? If so then Allah (pfft) can cook these Muslim bastards the next time he feels the need for pyrotecnics and mayhem.

So Mr. Whale Impersonator, you are suggesting that these men got what they deserve because it is convenient for you to asume they are "mercenaries". I guess that is because there are so many western "mercenaries" flowing into the region. Of course there are no Arab "mercenaries" (oh sorry, they are blessed jihadis) flowing into the region.
So do you think it is appropriate that anyone should take such pleasure in death at the people of Fallujah did with the barbaric display of the charred bodies of anyone (mercenary, warrior, priest, civilian, whatever)? You think this is acceptable? Please keep in mind that before these same people were barbecuing western "mercenaries" they were raping and brutally torturing their own people for recreation.

The pictures never appeared in the first place, through no action on our parts. Try re-publishing them, in case you inadvertently skipped any step in the process. Also, if they are not valid .jpg files (for instance, some other format renamed to .jpg), they will not show up on a web page, even if they can be opened in photoshop or other graphics application.

for making this "S.Odamninsane Day of Healing and Reflection – Reloaded : One Year In The War Against Bad Fashion, Ill Manners, and White People Sporting Dreadlocks". I want to thank those who came out in the rain and inclimate weather to share the love. This was truly a success.
The discussion that we have had on this string in some of the most thoughtful that I believe has been offered up on these pages with respect to the issues presented. Even with the horrifyingly graphic exhibits offered by some (although vital to the discussion presented), the discussion was important. Where other website have offered up more of the same as to recent events (i.e. they are mercenaries who deserve to die as they did, it is George Bush's fault, It is an internal Iraqi matter, etc., etc., etc.), S.Odamininsane Day of Healing and Reflection showed that people are still capable of reasoned discussion without giving in to the senseless hate that so defines much of the political debate from the left these days. I trust that this level of discourse can continue.
Until next time, I remain, rightfully yours .....
